Browns Britain - Died for Diesel

A sign of the times ...

Stealing Diesel
Stealing Diesel

... a farmers wife died this week after a raider on her family farm tried to steal diesel.

When in living memory in the UK have people attacked farmers to steal their diesel supplies?

The tax on fuel in the UK has driven the price up so high that its now worth stealing from trucks and even raiding isolated farms, like something out of Zimbabwe. For once I am almost speechless that no politician has made any connection to this sad event.

Its sadly ironic that it should be in the constituency of ex Prime Minister Tony Blair, the man who first let Brown loose on the UK economy. My condolences to the Dove family of East House Farm in Bishop Middleham, near Sedgefield on their sad loss ....

Update December 2008: In an irony that I can hardly credit .... car thief Tony Blair, 22 (yes really, Tony Blair!) was jailed for eight-and-half-years after he admitted grievous bodily harm with intent to Mr Dove, theft of the Mitsubishi - worth £17,500, theft of diesel, theft of a £8,000 caravan and two charges of handling stolen goods - one of an £8,000 blue Toyota Land cruiser and another of a £12,000 Nissan Xtrail.

He also asked for a further 15 offences of stealing vehicles, committed between September 2007 and June 2008, including 4x4s, a truck, a tipper and a transit van - worth an estimated total of around £100,000 - to be taken into account.

He should really have got 16 years (which is still less than a year for each offence). Blair also has 15 previous convictions covering 35 offences, including 14 offences of theft and nine offences while on bail ... a life time criminal who our broken system allows to just repeat and repeat ... he is not deterred by the pitiful sentences.

Update 2011: In August 2011 Blair apparently decided that 3 years was enough and walked out of HMP Ford Open Prison, in West Sussex. In January 2012 the now 25-year old told Judge Richard Bray at Northampton Crown Court to “get fucked” as he was sentenced to three years for possessing criminal property (an £18,000 Ford Ranger that had been stolen from Lower Lodge Farm, in Market Harborough, Leicestershire), and escaping from lawful custody ... as he hadn't even done half the 8 years for his previous convictions this seems less than a punishment and more like a reward.

No doubt he'll be out legally in a short time ... and back to his old ways.
