Justice Makes A Small Advance

Accustomed as we have all become to CSI solving crimes inside an hour on slick US crime dramas, it comes as a welcome bit of news that a new forensic test, devised by British Boffin, John Bond (licenced to skill), is helping catch murderers who walked away from crimes years ago.

The British inventor's new fingerprinting technique has given fresh impetus to half a dozen unsolved cases, and could help police identify the killer of a man shot dead 10 years ago in the US. Oddly the 10 yr old murder, is the only unsolved killing on the books of the city of Bristol, Connecticut. That's helluva a detection rate, and one the people of Bristol, England can only dream of.

As we have just been handed UK figures showing once again that serious crime is continuing to spiral out of control, and that custodial sentencing is falling in the UK, it may seem pointless catching criminals, but if it helps societies that still lock up criminals, it still has to be good news.

Moderation is on for older posts to stop spamming and comments that are off topic or inappropriate from being posted .... comments are reviewed within 48 hours. I don't block normal comments that are on topic and not inappropriate. Vexatious comments that may cause upset to other commentators, or that are attempting to espouse a particular wider political view, are reviewed before acceptance. But a certain amount of debate around a post topic is accepted, as long as it remains generally on topic and is not an attempt to become sounding board for some other cause.

Final decision on all comments is held by the blog author and is final.
