Mass Unemployment Haunts New Labour

Recently I blogged on the fact that the "Labour Isn't Working" poster is being brushed off for possible use in the next election. Well, recent news suggests that this rather jokey idea may have legs, because this week came the news that, unemployment numbers increased by 220,000 to 2,435,000 in the three months to June, taking the jobless rate to 7.8% in the UK, its highest level since 1995.

It's now heading back to the levels of previous 'recessions', and is predicted to approach 3 million early next year. This surely lends the lie to the idea that we have banished "Boom and Bust" economics in the UK.

Moderation is on for older posts to stop spamming and comments that are off topic or inappropriate from being posted .... comments are reviewed within 48 hours. I don't block normal comments that are on topic and not inappropriate. Vexatious comments that may cause upset to other commentators, or that are attempting to espouse a particular wider political view, are reviewed before acceptance. But a certain amount of debate around a post topic is accepted, as long as it remains generally on topic and is not an attempt to become sounding board for some other cause.
