Better Late Than Never

It appears that the United Nations was forced by world opinion, in to taking action against Gaddafi's militia and mercenary forces just in time.

According to reports some of his militia and mercenaries had actually got in to the suburbs of Benghazi when the no combat zones were agreed up on by the Security Council, and that's possibly why the Russians and Chinese just abstained.

Some reports are still falsely calling them 'No Fly' zones, but actually by one of those quirks of legalese that the Chinese and Russians normally spot, the resolution actually authorises force to enforce "all necessary measures" to protect civilians in Libya from pro-Gaddafi forces ... which the French, British and Americans have apparently interpreted as meaning that they can shoot up tanks, armoured vehicles, anti aircraft batteries, and anything else threatening civilians, which isn't exactly what the Russians and Chinese thought they were letting through (see Korean War and UN Resolutions, for the last time they made this sort of mistake).

The Russians (ever the supporter of these sorts of tyrants), realising their mistake, have started calling for the end of the use of excessive force by foreign powers enforcing the UN Resolution " ..... we call on countries involved to stop the non-selective use of force." Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said in a statement. Begs the question as to the force used in Checnya but ignoring that, in reality they are as usual positioning themselves to get deals in the Arab world when they turn on the "Crusaders" or "Colonialists" or whatever term they start using to abuse us with. Similarly the 'Oil Whores' in Beijing, will be making noises to reinforce the Arab public's prejudices against 'Westerners'.

Talking of the Arabs, where are they?

They called for the UN resolution (due to the turmoil in that part of the world, none could be seen to allow Gaddafi to commit mass murder), and yet as usual, when push come to shove, they do nothing ..... hypocrites and moral cowards to a man. 

These are the same states that spend billions of their oil monies on expensive air forces and weapons (which apparently can only be used to kill Israeli's, their own populations, or in the more radical of their leaders dreams, Westerners), rather than on education, science, and social advancements. Until recently "Death to the US, Death to the British etc etc," was the regular end to prayers in Cairo, Jeddah, Tripoli, and Sanaa ..... in Palestine, Syria, and Lebanon. It no doubt still is in many places.

They should be using their Sailors, Soldiers and Airman to sort Libya out ..... but where is the only place an Arab state has deployed troops? Why the Saudis have sent their troops to Bahrain to prop up the minority Sunni leadership, and suppress the Shia Muslim majority of that country .... No democracy allowed there then. So we risk our airmen's lives to protect a 'pro democracy' movement in Libya, the Saudi's are suppressing another such movement in Bahrain ..... where's the consistency?

When they are in trouble, instead of finding an Arab Saladin (he was actually not an Arab, but a Kurd), to come forward and sort out their issues, they turn to the Non Muslim world and despised "West" to risk its Soldiers and Airmen's lives to sort out an "Arab problem".

And now the Arab league has reversed its call for a UN Resolution, by saying that they didn't expect any civilians to be killed! Arab League chief Amr Moussa said what was happening was not what Arabs had envisaged when they called for the imposition of a no-fly zone over Libya. "What is happening in Libya differs from the aim of imposing a no-fly zone, and what we want is the protection of civilians and not the bombardment of more civilians," he said. In comments carried by Egypt's official state news agency, Moussa also said he was calling for an emergency Arab League meeting ...... not a word about the fact that Gaddafi is employing human shields .... as I say hypocrites and moral cowards.
