The French government has finally over turned a 200-year-old ban on women wearing trousers. Yes its one of those archaic laws that seem to linger on western statute books (
like the mythical one, about taxi drivers being allowed to peeing on the back left hand wheels of their cabs) ... this one was introduced in November 1800 AD, and was never rescinded.

Apparently it was aimed at stopping working class women getting jobs considered to be the reserve of men (working-class female revolutionaries were known as "sans-culottes" for NOT wearing breeches) .... I always like these daft laws, most of which are
urban myths by the way ....

Moderation is on for older posts to stop spamming and comments that are off topic or inappropriate from being posted .... comments are reviewed within 48 hours. I don't block normal comments that are on topic and not inappropriate. Vexatious comments that may cause upset to other commentators, or that are attempting to espouse a particular wider political view, are reviewed before acceptance. But a certain amount of debate around a post topic is accepted, as long as it remains generally on topic and is not an attempt to become sounding board for some other cause.
Final decision on all comments is held by the blog author and is final.
