Man Of The People

Ed Miliband is about as working class as Tony Blair was ..... and maybe even less so, which is saying something ..... this is a problem which his minders and PR guru's are forever trying to counter. So for example, on the 25th of May 2014, just prior to the Euro elections, they staged a 'photo op' at Covent Market in London.

The 'visit' was staged to promote Mr Miliband’s then pledge to help small firms by cutting rates and reforming the banks (how wasn't actually specified, as usual ... but hey, why let substance interfere with style). So obviously as well as buying fresh cut 'flowers' at 06:30 am (like we all do), he also wanted to be seen as just an 'ordinary bloke', representing 'Doncaster North', and who just happened to be stopping by for a mug of tea and a breakfast bite, in a local 'greasy spoon' cafe. I know, no don't laugh, this is what happens when you parachute Labour Party apparatchiks in to safe seats in the North, and elbow local men and women aside ... remember Peter 'mandy' Mandelson, being given a seat in Hartlepool (Its called local democracy, Labour style).

Obviously, as child from Primrose Hill, north London, and educated in Corpus Christi College, Oxford, he has nothing whatsoever in common with the general residents of Doncaster North, including it seems his eating habits. Still someone in his entourage decided that a 'bacon butty' was the perfect image to give to the press .... working class fodder vote winner if ever there was one (well ignoring those who shun pork).

Why Do All Labour Leaders Now Look Like Frankie Howard?

However no one seems to have considered if Miliband had ever eaten bacon or liked it (and given his 'heritage' it seems unlikely) .... so stuck between a rock and a hard place, Miliband tried to take just one mouthful and swallow .... but try as he might, and even with his now panicking minders trying to stop the press taking any close ups of his gurning and face straining, he apparently gave up trying to swallow, and handed the mouth mangled sandwich to a colleague, who discreetly tried to get rid of it.

What the cafe owner thought of all this, as it was played out in front of the national press, is not known (although they can't be pleased with the publicity it gendered for his establishments cooking), but when interviewed later, tactfully, Mr Foufas said that he would likely vote Conservative as they were more business orientated.

The Last Labour Leader And Frankie Howard

But what all this reminded me of, was that apart from the fact that I wouldn't vote for anyone who  uses a union block vote to back-stab his brother to get the job, it was that once again another Labour Leader, is turning into Frankie Howard before our eyes.

    1. "Titter ye not" but, well, Miliband for one apparently.

Perhaps being a self described 'Jewish atheist' (which is an Oxymoron in anybody's terminology) was not such a truthful statement as he likes to pretend. Those Muslim votes may still slip out of his hands .... a bit like a bacon butty.

    2. There are many Jewish atheists, Jewishdom is arguably more cultural than it is religious. I might go as far as to say that religion is more about joining a group which share your prejudices and legitises them, than it is about a god.

You can safely assume that you've created God in your own image when it turns out that God hates all the same people you do. -Anne Lamott, writer (b. 10 Apr 1954)

    3. "Jewishdom is arguably more cultural than it is religious" Hmm, I suspect that depends on who you ask. The whole idea is an intertwined ethno-cultural and ethno-religious mixture which makes it difficult if not impossible to extract yourself from one part but retain the other. Its not like being a lapsed baptist .... its more like all or nothing. The parental Milibands are a Marxist communist family, but I would like to bet that they still practised all the religious events such as 'passover' ....

However, all that aside, if you want to claim that you have no issue with eating pork (and again I'll bet it doesn't feature in his diet), to then pull faces while trying to eat a bacon butty is strange to say the least.
