Barracking Obama

A US President comes to the UK, during a very sensitive political debate about our future membership of a deeply undemocratic organisation, aka the European Union.

UK: US Puppet Or Valued Friend And Ally?
UK: US Puppet Or Valued Friend And Ally?

A matter solely for the British people to decide. Now good manners would suggest that he keep his comments on the subject to a polite 'Its not for us to interfere in the internal politics of a friend and ally" ....
But no, he wades in like we are some errant US political satellite such as Panama, and opens up with both barrels ....

"The outcome of your decision is a matter of deep interest to the United States. The tens of thousands of Americans who rest in Europe's cemeteries are a silent testament to just how intertwined our prosperity and security truly are."

And just in case we hadn't got it ..... he added that Britain would go to the "back of the queue" for trade deals with the US, if it votes to leave the European Union.

Well thank you President Obama for reminding us that Britain's only roles for the USA are to:
  • Serve as Americas mouth piece inside the EU.
  • Project and protect US interests inside the EU.
  • Provide soldiers to die on behalf of the US's wars across the globe (when no one else in the EU will).
... But just a little lesson in history Mr President.

  • US graves are in Europe because you were frightened of a Europe dominated by Germany.
  • We fought for the same reasons, and now are not happy at becoming just another province in the new Fourth Reich, under their Iron Chancellor, Mother Merkel.
  • The US has not signed away its sovereignty, and nor did the UK, when it joined a trade grouping (and not what it has now become, a political union).
  • How many British soldiers graves, are a direct result of US wars across the world. Wars that we would not have entered in to, if not to support the USA?
And as for 'trade agreements'.

Well the EU will never sign 'The Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership' (TTIP) as it stands, and the USA won't ratify it as the EU want it. So back of what queue? You have threatened a friend, perhaps the only real one you have in Europe, with what amounts to reprisals  .... I and many others won't forget that.

So as I say .... Thank You Mr President for reminding us what its like to be considered just another pawn of the US or EU empires.

  1. Looks like the project fear campaign is going to win easily enough but its a pity there has been absolutely no positive case for the EU being put forward. Where are Cameron's 'EU Reforms' now?

Moderation is on for older posts to stop spamming and comments that are off topic or inappropriate from being posted .... comments are reviewed within 48 hours. I don't block normal comments that are on topic and not inappropriate. Vexatious comments that may cause upset to other commentators, or that are attempting to espouse a particular wider political view, are reviewed before acceptance. But a certain amount of debate around a post topic is accepted, as long as it remains generally on topic and is not an attempt to become sounding board for some other cause.
