A Small Victory For Perseverance

A small Internet milestone was passed this week .... on the 16th of February this blog reached its 10th anniversary.

Happy Birthday To Us At PC Towers!!
Happy Birthday To Us At PC Towers!!

Who would have thunk it! I certainly didn't intend to keep going for a decade. In fact after my first couple of postings I was already considering that it was a struggle to find content.

This was mainly because I was making the rookie mistake of thinking that I should post fresh updates every day .... Top Tip: You in fact need to post regular blog updates, but not everyday, unless you are doing some sort of journal or diary. About once a week is the minimum.

So here we are, 10 years later. Sadly I didn't manage the magic double of 500,000 visitor hits in a decade, and in fact at least a few thousand of the hits the blog has managed, will have been me visiting to see if there were any comments. Again, at first I made the mistake of measuring the blogs 'success or failure' in terms of 'comments' and 'followers', rather than just 'views', and that was depressing at first as virtually no one visited my pages. However I now get between 250 and 350 hits a day, which is enough for my ego to feed off ☺ and is founded upon the number of subjects I have covered over the decade.

There are millions of voices out there trying to be heard, and rather like the inhabitants of the Tower of Babel, their voices are confounded so that they can not all be heard. I have discussed the problems of blogging before, so I won't go over that subject again, but suffice it to say that you have to find a target audience and slowly build it up with interesting posts. Or just accept that yours is a lone voice in the wilderness, and blog for your own entertainment, ignoring the lack of visits or comments.

I suspect that its this need to actually articulate a coherent opinion piece or make a valid point in a blog post, which is why 'Twitter' is so much more popular these days with its micro thoughts on everything, without any intellectual effort to justify them.

How long I go on doing this depends on a number of factors, not least of which will be my health (which unfortunately has become a major concern for me over the last month or so). That however is currently in the lap of the gods, so in the short term at least, I will continue to litter the Internet with my thoughts and musings on a range of subjects.

A Small Niche On The Web
A Small Niche On The Web .......

So, whilst I can hardly claim to be a big noise out there in the blogosphere world, I am pleased to have managed to carve out a small niche in that sphere that will be forever 'No PC Views'.

  1. Congratulations I have followed this blog for a few years now. Unlike many blogs it's kept up its content level remarkably well.

    1. Thanks. Are you one of my listed followers or just a regular visitor?

All comments are welcomed, or even just thanks if you enjoyed the post. But please make any comment relevant to the post it appears under. Off topic comments will be blocked or removed.

Moderation is on for older posts to stop spamming and comments that are off topic or inappropriate from being posted .... comments are reviewed within 48 hours. I don't block normal comments that are on topic and not inappropriate. Vexatious comments that may cause upset to other commentators, or that are attempting to espouse a particular wider political view, are reviewed before acceptance. But a certain amount of debate around a post topic is accepted, as long as it remains generally on topic and is not an attempt to become sounding board for some other cause.

Final decision on all comments is held by the blog author and is final.

Comments are always monitored for bad or abusive language, and or illegal statements i.e. overtly racist or sexist content. Spam is not tolerated and is removed.

Commentaires ne sont surveillés que pour le mauvais ou abusif langue ou déclarations illégales ie contenu ouvertement raciste ou sexiste. Spam ne est pas toléré et est éliminé.
