Skewed Social Values

I have fairly often commented on the skewed social values of one group in the Indian Subcontinent (and abroad), but have often ignored another, the Hindu's. However they are not immune to the social backwardness inherent in those societies .e.g human sacrifices to the gods.

Sorcerers Practise Black and White Magic In India
Sorcerers Practise Black and White Magic In India .... Some Of It Very Black Indeed.

But in March this year there were some shocking stories. The first was when police in the south Indian state of Karnataka, arrested three people in connection with the "human sacrifice" of a 10-year-old girl.

The brother and sister of a paralysed man, with the help of a 17 year accomplice, abducted and murdered the little girl. They did so on the instructions of a "sorcerer" in order to "cure" the paralysed brother. Local residents found the body of the girl inside a bag along with the materials which police believe were used to conduct "black magic" rituals.

There was another reported sacrifice killing in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh in 2015. The victim was a five year old child who was abducted while playing, allegedly by a man, who beheaded him and threw the blood around his house. The suspect, identified as a Mr Rao, was caught on the outskirts of Pokuru village, where he was beaten up and set on fire by an angry mob.

We have of course have discussed this subject on a couple of occasions.

The second story that I noticed that month, was the discovery in the western Indian state of Maharashtra, of 19 aborted female foetuses near a hospital. Police reported that they found the foetuses while they were investigating the death of a woman who had undergone an illegal abortion. Police have arrested the husband of the woman, and have launched a manhunt for the doctor who has gone missing. Once again this shows that despite all the barely enforced laws, female foeticide is still rampant and being carried out, even in hospitals in India.

But what these stories illustrate is that even in the more modern Indian society of today, the values on both human sacrifice and female lives, are still backward in much of the rest of the country.
