Chinese Codes

Damn clever those Chinese .....

Message To The World .....

This was created by the residents of Xilinshui village (named "the most beautiful village in Hebei" in 2015), in China, using 130,000 Chinese junipers, and it measures 227m (744ft) along each side, and the trees are between 80cm and 2.5m in height. Its intended to publicise the village to the outside world.

Of course most of us recognise it as a giant QR code that can be scanned from the aerial image.

Those who do scan it are taken to the village's tourism account on WeChat, the Chinese social media site. All very clever as I have stated, but I couldn't help thinking of another culture who communicated to the sky's ...

Nazca QR Codes .... Or Messages To The Gods?

.... The Nazca people of Peru famously laid down the Nazca Lines. A series of geometric, zoomorphic and phytomorphic shapes, in the high desert. These can only be seen from the air (by only their gods one assumes).

Nazca QR ....

Perhaps the archaeologists have got this all wrong, and the Nazca were just laying down the first QR code .... just a thought.

Moderation is on for older posts to stop spamming and comments that are off topic or inappropriate from being posted .... comments are reviewed within 48 hours. I don't block normal comments that are on topic and not inappropriate. Vexatious comments that may cause upset to other commentators, or that are attempting to espouse a particular wider political view, are reviewed before acceptance. But a certain amount of debate around a post topic is accepted, as long as it remains generally on topic and is not an attempt to become sounding board for some other cause.
