Mr Ebola

During the Ebola crisis a couple of years ago, pedestrian crossings in Leeds, Manchester and Nottingham sported new additions. These northern and centrally located cities across England, had posters in the style of the 'Mr Men' children's characters, and christened 'Mr Ebola' by locals, displayed.

The perpetrator of this art installation, and indeed the real reason for their appearance, has never come to light (as far as I know).

This reminded me of a similar event, reported as occurring in Manchester City centre, including both its major rail stations, a few years ago. In this case it was the appearance of thousands of little brick figures all over the station floors and the surrounding streets. I seem to recall that a local art collective claimed credit later, but I can't find news references to the event now.

I couldn't find photos of the figures in situ on the streets, but someone collected some and posted  a photo on the web, which I did download at the time to email a friend. There was also the street signs that appeared in the London borough of Hackney.

I like these events, they make city life interesting for those who live and work in them.
