Beer Cure and Other Shorts

  • Bad News on the Beer front: Police Constable Rebecca Stevenson crashed her car. Not newsworthy in itself, but when fellow officers arrived they found her, drunk (twice the limit), barefooted, and wearing only her nightdress. She was sacked by Lincolnshire police following an internal disciplinary hearing.

  • This is not all that unusual, for instance, three San Antonio law enforcement officers were caught drinking and driving, and taken into custody in separate incidents, and all in the same night. While a state trooper crashed his car into another on the Garden State Parkway in Wall Township, New Jersey, he was found to be over the drink driving limit.

  • A drunken brawl between a duck and a border collie outside a pub in Chumleigh North Devon, ended with the duck needing pain killers for a broken beak. The duck named Star had been drinking in one of the towns pubs, the Old Courthouse Inn, with his owner, when he fell out with his fellow pet, Maggie the kelpie. They had to be separated, but Star was expected to make a full recovery.

  • A young woman in Perth Australia was charged with assaulting a female police officer by squirting breast milk from her own breast, into the officers face following a full body/clothing search at a shopping centre. The woman had been accused of shop lifting.

  • Bristol won a prize as England's booziest city .... they match Glasgow in drinking an average of 9 pints of beer a week (per resident). Honourable mentions in England to Manchester and Newcastle at 8.5 pints per week. London manages a paltry 6.5 pints per week. Eek ... I do more than those figures in just a weekend!!

  • Thomas Bacon attacked another man in Madison, New Jersey, USA. His reason was apparently that the man had eaten the last sausage during a meal.

  • A drunken reveller at Munich's Oktoberfest beer festival in Germany was arrested for publicly wiping his backside with Euro notes .... its not reported what nationality the 39 year old was.

  • According to an Office for National of  Statistics quiz in 2014, women are twice as likely to be swingers than men. According to this survey, 0.7 per cent or 180,000 of the female UK population describe themselves as bi sexual. Men who answered represented 0.3 per cent (74,000 males). In the greater population 815,000 people (or 1.6 per cent of the population), described themselves as Lesbian, Homosexual, or Bisexual. 2.6 per cent of 16-24 year olds describe themselves in one of those terms, this drops to just 0.6 per cent of those over 65 in age.

  • Apparently we are a two faced lot. According to an AA report, 50 per cent of us would call the police if we saw a drunken stranger getting in to a car and preparing to drive, but the figure drops to just 3 per cent if that driver was a friend, and just 2 per cent if they were a relative. In context, Britain's annual drink driving deaths have fallen from 1,640 in 1979 to 230 in 2013, despite our population growing by millions in that period.

  • Good News (or is it?), on the beer front. Researchers at the University of Southern Denmark said that a moderate amount of alcohol equal to two pints of beer a day could slash Alzheimer deaths. However when you think about it, who wants to live longer with Alzheimers?

These Old Boys Are Probably Not Middle-Class and Educated ..... So No Beer Protection.

  • But perhaps you wont have to worry about that. Findings published in the August 2017 issue of the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease of a study led by the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine, has indicated that older adults, who consume alcohol moderately on a regular basis are more likely to live to the age of 85 without dementia or other cognitive impairments than non-drinkers ..... But only if you’re Middle-Class, White, and Educated ... possibly.

  1. I'm skeptical of that statistic on calling the police on friends and family as with someone you know there's the third option of taking their keys away.

    1. I've seen that go very badly .... depends on how sensible the drink driver is.
