Once you go too far into the 'animal rights' groups, you often find that they are barking mad.
For instance I have some sympathy with the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and its opposition the famous dog show Crufts.
For sure, the breeding requirements for certain breeds to be able to compete in the categories, often leads to deformities .... bull dogs that can't breath, boxers that can't give birth naturally, and some dogs with skulls too small for their natural brain size.
But, its also the best organisation to work with to get these sorts of issues corrected. Working with them to change the judging rules would clearly be more likely to get the changes that PETA want.
Peta's American branch have said, in a blog post on their site entitled 'You can't be a feminist and buy a dog', the blog noted that the term 'bitch' is an insult. This is 'because, in breeders' circles, female dogs' main purposes are to win beauty pageants and then to be bred repeatedly until their bodies wear out' in a manner 'sickeningly similar to the illicit sex trade. Their bodies are controlled, manipulated, bought, and sold - all for the financial benefit of their peddlers. Unfortunately, just like selling women, selling puppies can be profitable.' So dog owners can't be feminist because 'if you buy a dog, you are funding sexual exploitation', and that is 'anti-feminist'.
In case you think that this is just extremist American feminist thinking. Peta UK told The Times newspaper: 'Any institution that treats females as breeding machines is anti-feminist. Not only are dog shows such as Crufts, creepy, they also encourage people to breed dogs purely for their physical appearance, commonly at the expense of their health.'
Once you start equating dog breeding, or even just the puppy farms, with prostitution and the selling of women, you really are animal crackers.

All comments are welcomed, or even just thanks if you enjoyed the post. But please make any comment relevant to the post it appears under. Off topic comments will be blocked or removed.
Moderation is on for older posts to stop spamming and comments that are off topic or inappropriate from being posted .... comments are reviewed within 48 hours. I don't block normal comments that are on topic and not inappropriate. Vexatious comments that may cause upset to other commentators, or that are attempting to espouse a particular wider political view, are reviewed before acceptance. But a certain amount of debate around a post topic is accepted, as long as it remains generally on topic and is not an attempt to become sounding board for some other cause.
Final decision on all comments is held by the blog author and is final.
