Save Us From Idiots

The picture below was a still taken from a Facebook video advert by the Superdry clothing brand ....

... it was banned because it was 'irresponsible'.

Why? Well because we are a apparently now a society of dolts and dullards, with a population of lemmings who would copycat the illusory risks taken by this professional free-runner (aka parkour). He's a professional with the tag of Nightscape (real name Harry Gallagher).

We are also now apparently driven by a false health and Safety culture, that actually discourages people from making up their own minds about risk. But this particular ban was because a single TV viewer complained that the ad was 'socially irresponsible and encouraged an unsafe practice' ... what a pantywaist that single viewer must be.

They no doubt scroll through reams of adverts looking for something to complain about, and how pathetic that the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) are for even listening to a single complaint. Surely they should weigh up the number of complaints against the number of viewers who didn't complain ... use some proportionality?

But they are really just a dead quango who have long since lost the point of their existence and have form for upholding this sort of disproportionate nonsense complaint.

  1. Excellent observation. I heard the other day of some sculpture being removed because of one complaint. As you say, complaints should be weighed up with the lack of complaints etc.

    Get a sense of proportion

    1. Nothing more dangerous than a Quango justifying its existence.

All comments are welcomed, or even just thanks if you enjoyed the post. But please make any comment relevant to the post it appears under. Off topic comments will be blocked or removed.

Moderation is on for older posts to stop spamming and comments that are off topic or inappropriate from being posted .... comments are reviewed within 48 hours. I don't block normal comments that are on topic and not inappropriate. Vexatious comments that may cause upset to other commentators, or that are attempting to espouse a particular wider political view, are reviewed before acceptance. But a certain amount of debate around a post topic is accepted, as long as it remains generally on topic and is not an attempt to become sounding board for some other cause.

Final decision on all comments is held by the blog author and is final.
