Fighting Women Of All Ages

There was a time, long long ago when we pretended that women in England were delicate roses .....

Victorian English Rose (well she's actually a German, but you get the idea).
Victorian English Rose (well she's actually a German, but you get the idea).

That in fact they were almost the epitome of femininity .....

..... Of course it was never true, especially of the Victorian working class women.

Places like Fleetwood in Lancashire, and Shildon in County Durham, were towns built on fishing or mining, and where men were men, and women, were err, well, men as well.

Shildon's Women Keeping Working Class Traditions Alive ....

Nothing changes as the decades and centuries have rolled by .... as these two fighting wo'men' of Shildon demonstrated when their fight was recorded, and viewed on-line more than 1.5 million times in 24 hours, after being posted on social media sites including Twitter.

The fight starts when the fat brunette who is apparently called 'Black Juicy' locally, and the younger blonde woman called 'Lizzie', have an argument in the street before 'Black Juicy's' house. Sadly the initial cause of the dispute is not caught by the camera. However whatever it was it causes 'Lizzie' to step away and pull her shorts down, exposing her buttocks, and then 'twerking' at 'Black Juicy' (not something you should apparently do lightly).

This set up a head to head grapple, starting with objects being thrown at each other, then a close in where punches were thrown with gay abandon, until the younger and lighter woman used her speed advantage to get 'Black Juicy' to go over a garden wall. At this point the police arrived, and one of the ladies was arrested, but apparently later released with no charges.

I once witnessed a fight outside a Labour club in central Manchester in the 1970's, in which two large middle aged drunken women scrapped for nearly 10 minutes, whilst the weedy male object of their joint desire held their coats (I jest not) .... I and the old lady who was also watching, enjoyed ourselves immensely ... you shouldn't, but you do.

So I never moralise about women taking part in regulation Boxing or Muay (Thai) boxing. I can't laugh at the impromptu women's street fight, and then ban the organised other, simply because its boring to me, or repugnant to others. The women street fighters are after all, just keeping a working class tradition alive.
