JFK and All Those Conspiracies

I don't normally go in for conspiracies. Too many people involved usually means someone talks. The moon landings were not faked ... film technicians would have talked and they did it 6 times - so live with it Flat Earthers.

The USA Landed Six Times On The Moon.

However the JFK theories have more legs, if simply because they might only need less than a dozen participants, who would be highly motivated to stay silent.

Nonetheless most theories are too convoluted .... but the idea of Lee Harvey Oswald as patsy for a cabal of conspirators, has some legs. However whenever you read most forums or blogs on this subject, they make a few basic factual errors and run from there. But there are some anomalies that allow conspiracists to keep the story alive.

1. The Warren Commission was not trying to find the truth of who killed President Kennedy. They already knew who (Oswald, as far as they were concerned), so they were set up solely to build a case to that end. However they have been shown to have cherry picked evidence, and possibly tampered with or ignored, any evidence that didn't fit that desired scenario.

Warren Commission Had Different Aims Than Many Suppose ...

2. For the single gunman, single shot scenario to work the Commission had a problem, which is that the 'kill' bullet had to have traversed 15 layers of clothing, 7 layers of skin, and approximately 15 inches of tissue, struck a neck-tie knot, removed 4 inches of rib, and shattered a radius bone. But the retrieved bully appeared nearly normal. The bullet was found on a gurney in the corridor at the Parkland Memorial Hospital, in Dallas, not the car, and the hospital gurney (trolley), was the one that had borne Governor Connally, not the President. Yet the commission said this was the bullet that killed JFK, and wounded Governor Connally.
3. Many conspiracy sites ignore the Assassination Records Review Board, which was set up to determine what documents could be released to the public. In doing so, they effectively reviewed all the case evidence, including unreleased information. The 50,000 emails covering their activities are now released, and so far are largely un-trawled ~ there may well be new facts amongst their emails.
4. Oh, and in October 2017 a spent, misshapen, but otherwise intact, bullet was reported by US Navy doctor James Young, as being found by two chief petty officers who, during the autopsy, were sent to retrieve any skull fragments they could find in the limousine. They came back with three pieces of bone, and the bullet. The skull fragments were reported — but not the bullet. Dr Young only queried its omission from the Warren Commission in 2000. So its possible that his memory of events is faulty, although at least one of the petty officers has corroborated the find of the bullet.

Now obviously if another bullet was found in the car, it suggests a second gunman. But of course, that's a BIG IF ... there has to be doubt about the claims made in 2017, and which two people apparently didn't reveal for nearly five decades. This despite numerous TV shows, Newspapers investigations, and Hollywood Films .... hmm!

You have got to love a conspiracy theory that is still throwing up new evidence 50 years plus after the event. I predict this one will run for another fifty years.

  1. It's not a conspiracy theory which has (more) legs that you've described above, but a list of differing priorities, incompetence and bureaucracy.

Moderation is on for older posts to stop spamming and comments that are off topic or inappropriate from being posted .... comments are reviewed within 48 hours. I don't block normal comments that are on topic and not inappropriate. Vexatious comments that may cause upset to other commentators, or that are attempting to espouse a particular wider political view, are reviewed before acceptance. But a certain amount of debate around a post topic is accepted, as long as it remains generally on topic and is not an attempt to become sounding board for some other cause.
