The A38 All Terrain Scout Transport |
...... so he put up a life-sized model a 'Scout Walker' from the movies on the A38 road nearby.
The idea was to create a landmark and generate some interest in the town.
However the £12,000 4.5m (14ft) tall model AT-S (All Terrain Scout Transport), was erected without planning permission and was likely to have been pulled down, but such was the positive public response to it that the local Teignbridge council have given it retrospective planning permission to remain on the spot.
The AT-ST From 'Battle of Endor' In Return of the Jedi. |
Creator Dean Harvey said it took more than 400 hours to make the replica which first featured during the Battle of Hoth in The Empire Strikes Back but it is best remembered for its appearance fighting the Ewoks at the Battle of Endor in Return of the Jedi.
Also known as the Chicken Walker, one of my favourite vehicles from the series. Let's hope that there aren't too many Ewoks in Ashburton Devon to comically and inventively destroy the model.
ReplyDeleteEwoks are considered vermin in that part of the world, and were wiped out with myxomatosis in the 1950's ....
DeleteI just watched one of the new ones. Can't say that I was particularly impressed as the story line just seems to be essentially the same as the first three, but set with new less attractive characters replacing the old ones.
ReplyDeleteThe main difference is that the new ones have a black man chasing a white woman just to show we are now multicultural (just like TV adverts in fact).
LOL .... that how the creative types illustrate multiculturalism ... a black man and and a white woman shacking up. Black women are still anonymous, even to black men it seems, in media lands. Good observation. Can't say I've seen the new ones, and even less likely to, now that you have reviewed them so succinctly.
