James Johnson, had planned to go on a one-night binge with his two friends in his old home town.
To facilitate this, they ordered £750 worth of drugs from the dark web, booked into a Travelodge in Eastleigh, near Southampton for the night.
But they enjoyed themselves so much that the party, turned into a five-night stay, with numerous drugs being consumed by the trio ... that four days later, Johnson and his friends were still there and police officers were called when hotel staff smelt a strong whiff of cannabis coming from their room.
The Police arrived and found Mr Johnson carrying a bag of potatoes into the bathroom, and with a bra over his shirt.
“It may be this that led officers to believe that he was intoxicated.” the prosecution lawyer told the court.
Such was the amount of drugs (including MDMA, the hallucinogen 2CB, and 5-MAPB), found in the hotel room, and in a later search of his house in Arundel, Ely, Cambridge, that charges of possession with intent to supply were laid, which Johnson later pleaded guilty to. In another cruel twist of the knife, it turned out that after testing, a drug expert found that the true value of the drugs was only around £300 and that some of the substances had in fact been inert.
His defence lawyer stated that Johnson was “intelligent man who made a mistake” .... (that's a debatable statement .ed.). The judge after commenting on how "odd and bizarre" the case was, sentenced Johnson to an 18-month community order, with the requirement to carry out a nine-month drug rehabilitation programme.

It's amazing how casual the use of drugs is treated these days.
ReplyDeleteIt appears that a lot of under 30's smoke weed as an everyday recreational drug. This despite the strong evidence of the mental health Issues associated with regular usage. Thanks for the comment.
