Crime Is Punishment Free

Apparently Friday the 8th of November was one of the dates on which in the UK you are most likely to get burgled.

According to the Co-Operative Insurance group, November is the most likely month in which to get burgled. Fridays are always the most popular day of the week from a burglars point of view.

It appears that the putting back of the clocks at the end of October in the UK, causes an instant spike in incidences of house break ins, as criminals are emboldened by the earlier darkness. It also appears that incidences of neighbourhood crime are often not even reported to the police anymore, as people don't believe that the police can catch burglars these days.

A recent survey found that of the 4,000 people questioned in the joint Neighbourhood Watch and Co-Op exercise, a third of them had been a victim of break ins, and a fifth of them hadn't bothered to report the incidents to the police.

Capturing Robbers And Burglars
Capturing Robbers And Burglars Isn't Very Likely These Days ......

This lack of confidence in the polices abilities to solve common crimes are backed up by the figures which suggest that 95% of burglaries and street robberies (such as thieves on scooters robbing shops and people, before disappearing into the traffic), across the UK are not being solved.

These figures from The Metropolitan Police (London's police force) showed that between April 2017 and April 2018 only 5.5% of burglary's and 7% for robbery's are solved – and that overall the detection rates resulting in sanction i.e. Charges being laid, are only a poor overall rate of 13.2% for all offences.

Nationally, the police data shows that The Met are not alone in this impotence, with only 4% of robberies solved and the burglary detection rate halved from 6% to 3% in England and Wales in 2017, compared with 9% in 2013.

For crime of all sorts nationally, the proportion of suspects who are caught and punished, has more than halved to 9% over the past five years .... the thin blue line has apparently been well and truly broken over the last decade or so, and we teeter on the edge of anarchy on our streets. The world of The Purge gets ever closer it seems.
