Bolly Good Beer

A beer named Kalika, that featured a label that had had an image of the goddess Kali on it .....

Kalika Beer ... Gone But Not Forgotten
..... prompted Hindu religious leaders to demand its removal and an apology from Tollgate Breweries.

As usual in these times, the brewery had to scrap the beer. Other beers have suffered similar criticisms:

Cwtch Beer - Child Friendly?
  • Welsh brewery Tiny Rebel was forced to change its can design for Cwtch - which was selected as the Champion Beer of Britain at the Great British Beer Festival in 2015 - after it was deemed to be "too attractive" to children.
  • Marble Brewery from Manchester was asked by Trading Standards to "reconsider" selling a beer called Pint in 500ml cans.
Top Totty - Not Acceptable
  •  Top Totty, a blonde beer brewed by Staffordshire-based Slater's Ales, was removed from one of the pubs in Parliament after Labour Party shadow equalities minister Kate Green complained over its "offensive" pump clip.
Sexist?
  • Scottish brewery BrewDog was criticised for brewing a "beer for girls" called Pink IPA to mark International Women's Day in March.
  • Danish brewers Heineken was drawn into a political row in Argentina, after referring to the Falkland Islands as British ... which of course they are. 👌

Moderation is on for older posts to stop spamming and comments that are off topic or inappropriate from being posted .... comments are reviewed within 48 hours. I don't block normal comments that are on topic and not inappropriate. Vexatious comments that may cause upset to other commentators, or that are attempting to espouse a particular wider political view, are reviewed before acceptance. But a certain amount of debate around a post topic is accepted, as long as it remains generally on topic and is not an attempt to become sounding board for some other cause.

Final decision on all comments is held by the blog author and is final.
