Rich Beyond The Dreams Of Avarice (Or The Donald)

We often hear that President Donald Trump has liked to describe himself as a 'Billionaire' .....

Trump - Thinking Like A Billionaire - Living Like A Millionaire
Trump - Thinking Like A Billionaire

.... this despite the fact that he often revels in paying only the level of taxes that even a non millionaire might be pleased to pay (possibly that's why he's a billionaire?).

Estimates for his worth have varied quite a bit over the decades, with a recent one suggesting that its currently about US $2.1 billion. But in US terms that is not huge, and in fact puts him somewhere below being the 250th richest person in the USA.

However, in what must be a blow to his pride a recent map created by HowMuch.net illustrates the biggest fortunes in the USA on a state-by-state basis.

The Richest In Each US State .....
The Richest In Each US State .....

and guess what, Mr Trump doesn't feature on it.

Now it has to be said that the map was based on figures from before the economic collapse caused by the coronavirus. But its likely that the relative wealth positions of the billionaires has stayed the same in relation with each other, so the map is possibly still valid. Some, such as Jeff Bezos, who with a wealth estimated at $117bn, may even end up increasing their wealth as sales via Amazon boom during the pandemic.

Other billionaires, whose fortunes made in the badly impacted areas of tourism, hospitality and sport may see their wealth fall ..... how Mr Trump fares, with his wealth being based in real estate and development, remains to be seen. But given his ambiguous claims to his wealth levels, its unlikely that it will be obvious if he loses money.

Anyway, back to the the map which shows that the levels of wealth in each state vary a lot. The richest in some months, range from over $100bn to a mere $300m, in some states - which even Trump would disparage as pocket change. I wonder how the 26 million Americans who are currently unemployed will view the wealth of the few over the next few years ... probably not any differently.

Anyway,  just for completeness here's the listing by state from the map:
