Jack The Book Ripper

Police in Herne Bay Kent, England have been left without a shred of evidence ....

.... after some of the towns charity shops, and its public library was subjected to a spate of attacks on books.

The great Herne Bay “Book Ripper” mystery, started when he (its assumed to be a male) struck the town's library and at the Demelza charity shop (ironically in the true crime section), in the spring of 2019, ripping pages at the back of books in half, before putting them back on the shelves.

Some were left with just the pages ripped but in the books, while others were completely removed. Nearly all were crime mystery books, so apparently the aim was to spoil the endings of the books. So the sort of case that Sherlock Holmes would have tackled .... but the modern equivalent, Kent's finest boys in blue, had no clues to help them .... or at least none that they have shared with the press.

Before long over a 100 books in the charity shops, and at least 20 books in the town's library had been damaged. None can be sold, and most must be thrown away.

I can't give a spoiler alert on this, because either the police never caught anyone, or the press never followed up when they did.
