Best TV Advert?

The 2007 Cadbury chocolate advert for its Dairy Milk bar, featuring a drumming gorilla ....

Cadbury's Gorilla Drummer
Cadbury's Gorilla Drummer

.... was voted advert of the year and the best UK TV advert of all time in a 2015 poll.

For those of you who have not seen it, or who don't know the Phil Collins sound track, I have embedded the video. The only reference to the product is a final screen shot of the chocolate bar with the tag “A glass and a half full of joy.”

What's interesting is how much favourite adverts tell you about a country .... its sense of humour, what it thinks is 'clever', what products are important etc. Its not universal around the globe, and no doubt readers around the globe may find the UK's choices in 2015, odd, funny or just baffling.

I know that whenever I have been abroad I have often been bemused by the local TV adverts - although increasingly the bars only had English SKY TV on, so it was UK adverts (such is the impact of globalisation). Anyway's, the full results of the 2015 vote below.

The UK's Public's votes in 2015 were:

1. Drumming Gorilla (Cadbury's Dairy Milk) 19%
2. Compare the Market (Meerkats) 16%

12. Honda (Cog) 4%
13. Sony Bravia (Balls) 3%
14.The Guardian Newspaper (Points of View) 2%
15. Blackcurrant Tango 1%

While the UK's marketeers votes were:

1. Guinness Surfer 20%
2. Compare the Market 9%
3. Blackcurrant Tango 9%
4. Cadbury Gorilla 8%
5. R White’s (Secret Lemonade drinker) 6%
6. John Lewis – Always a woman 6%
7. Honda – Cog 5%

Personally, although I liked the gorilla advert, its the 'Guinness Surfer' that sticks out from this list.
