Queen Elizabeth II Passes

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has died.

She passed today, surrounded by her extensive family aged 96-years-old, as Britain's longest serving monarch.

She became Queen regnant in February 1952 upon the death of her father, and was crowned on the 2nd of June 1953. Her reign has seen Britain from the remnants of Empire in  1953, in to, and then out of the European Union, and throughout she remained Queen of the United Kingdom and also of 14 other Commonwealth realms.

She served in World War II in the Auxiliary Territorial Service and married Philip Mountbatten, a former prince of Greece and Denmark, a marriage which lasted 73 years until his death in April 2021.

Winston Churchill was the British Prime Minister when she became Queen and Liz Truss was in that role when she died ... in all she saw 18 changes of Prime Minister with 15 different people in the position. She also started her reign during the Presidency of Harry S. Truman in 1952 and saw 14 US Presidents take office with Joe Biden in his first Presidency term when she passed.

She took her position seriously with a great sense of royal duty, and despite some suggestions that she hand over to her son Prince Charles, she remained active right up until almost her final days, with the acceptance of Liz Truss as Prime Minister (and the third female PM), on the 6th of September 2021.

Throughout her reign she was much respected, and even loved, in much of her various realms, and her passing sees the end of an era .... it seems likely that many of her former countries (such as Canada and Australia), will now see campaigns to become Republics. She is succeeded by King Charles III.

God save the Queen. Long live the King.
