Egyptian Doctor Hossam Metwally was practising in the UK's NHS, as an anaesthetist and chronic pain specialist, at Diana Princess of Wales Hospital, and also running a pain clinic from his home.
Egyptian Doctor, Hossam Metwally |
He had also worked in Saudi Arabia as well as Egypt, before practising in the UK. He moved to Grimsby three years after his arrival in the UK in 1996 ....
His marital status before entering the UK is not known, but as a Muslim man it has to be presumed that he had probably at least been married once, he may not even be divorced, by 1996. In any event when he met Kelly Wilson in 2015, he was aged 55 and she was 27. She had been training to be nurse and she went to work at his private pain clinic .... despite the cultural, religious and age differences, she later moved in with him at his home in Laceby Road, where they lived as a couple.
She was reportedly lonely, had a history of depression and suffered a catalogue of illnesses which resulted her in quitting her nursing job. In court it was alleged by the prosecution that Doctor Metwally was secretly giving various drugs to Ms Wilson including fentanyl and ketamine, and had "knowingly fed her addiction" for drugs.
In 2016 he then convinced her that she was possessed by supernatural spirits (Djinns / Genies), telling her that there were a number of Jinns, "hiding" inside her, and that he had to remove them by reciting verses of the Koran and placing holy water and oils on her skin.
A Jinn Called Magdulina? |
What he failed to tell her was that he was going to perform more than 250 rituals, and make dozens of recordings over the following four-year period.
These recordings showed him administering fluids including sedatives through a cannula (a thin tube that doctors insert into a person's vein) to a motionless Ms Wilson as she lay on a bed, while he chanted some religious phrase "Bismillah Allah-hu-Akbar" (In the name of Allah, Allah is the greatest), "Bismillah. Go to them in your head," and naming a jinn called 'Magdulina', a being whom he apparently invented ... Later in court a Muslim Imam confirmed that although the 'Ruqya' (Islamic "prophetic medicine"), was considered a valid Islamic practice, it should never involve drugs or sedation or restraints.
The religious nut-case was finally arrested after Ms Wilson fell into a coma on 4 July 2019. She was on the brink of a cardiac arrest, and was taken to hospital that afternoon with multiple organ failure. During their investigations police found a "vast stock of drugs" at his home, including ketamine, propofol, fentanyl and Diazemuls.
They
also found recordings, edited to make them more indecent, of Metwally's
voyeurism victims, female patients getting changed at his private
clinic. He had set up a hidden camera to record this. Metwally claimed
in court that Ms Wilson was "a beautiful, nice girl who became a monster who wanted to attack me."
After an eight week trial jurors took less than 90 minutes to reach unanimous guilty verdicts on all eight charges, including endangering Ms Wilson's life by administering anaesthetic drugs to sedate Ms Wilson; the supply of various controlled drugs or medicines, and the possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply, and a count of fraud. He also pleaded guilty to two counts of voyeurism.
For once the Judge, Jeremy Richardson QC didn't spare his words, and said that he had "never been involved in a more bizarre case". He then dismissed Metwally's exorcisms as "entirely bogus" and said they had "nothing to do with established Islamic procedures".
He added that Metwally was a "fanatic", and that the rituals performed on Ms Wilson were "sham religious acts". He went on to say that while he may have believed, "in some perverted way" that he was helping Ms Wilson, he had chosen to do so in a "bizarre way by botched medical procedures and the administration of potent drugs which regularly endangered her life".
He finished by saying that Metwally, had shown "not a shred of remorse" during his "preposterous defence." adding "You are a disgrace to your profession and will not be a doctor for much longer, You perverted medical practices for your own ends. You are also not a very good doctor, because in those perverted practices you almost killed the woman you said you loved."
He then jailed him for 14 and a half years. Sadly this means that he will likely be out in 7 or 10 years. Also being found guilty of a crime doesn't guarantee being struck off by our woke General Medical Council, and there wasn't even a commitment to deport this lunatic back to the land which bred his beliefs, when he is released.
