The Bayeux Tapestry was sewn/embroidered by English, Anglo-Saxon
ladies (possibly nuns), after the Battle of Hastings in 1066, and
may well not have been a particularly interesting job for ladies.
Especially if it was nuns, who were often not in the nunnery's by choice, but were put there by their families, to save on dowry payments if they had stayed out and then got married, or in some cases because they had got pregnant outside of wedlock. But whatever the reasons, the tapestry, being either the work of nuns, or lay women, includes no less than 93 penises.
Now, its not necessarily what you might think, especially when you realise that 88 of those are on horses that's not an unexpected result for a cavalry army, but the other five penises are on men. Four are depicted as erect ... one limp (on a dead soldier). Both King Harold, and William the bastard are depicted with erect penises (for political reasons, Williams was depicted as being larger than Harold's .... But I don't know who is who above).
Still my money is betting that at least a few of the ladies had been out and about in the world ....
