What Next For Justice?

What would you expect to happen if you went to court, after you beat up your girlfriend, then robbed her, after finding out she had had a miscarriage and was possibly dating someone else?

Little Scumbag - Deserved Prison But Let Off
Little Scumbag ....

Prison perhaps? No, you don't understand modern thinking by the courts.

Joseph Gallager, of Harpurhey, Manchester lured Natasha O'Callaghan to a field, and assaulted her in 2017. He then forced the student nurse to transfer £500 into his bank account, and stole her mother's ring, and sold it for £60 at a Cash Generator store.

His only excuse was that he was "young, immature and a little weirdo" ..... and Judge Patrick Field QC bought it .... after a long summing up of the violence and coercive behaviour involved, the judge finished with 'Many will expect you to deserve a prison sentence, but there is a realistic prospect of rehabilitation. I don't want to see you again, but if I do, you know what will happen'.

Gallacher, who was in custody on remand for nine months, before the trial and eventual sentencing in May 2019, had various previous convictions including assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and criminal damage. He got 21 months suspended, and was ordered to complete a domestic abuse programme, 200 hours unpaid work and pay compensation of £500 to Miss O'Callaghan.

He was also made subject of a restraining order for five years .... if that had been my daughter, he would wish he was dead before he was, and if I had been his father ... he would still wish he was dead.

Moderation is on for older posts to stop spamming and comments that are off topic or inappropriate from being posted .... comments are reviewed within 48 hours. I don't block normal comments that are on topic and not inappropriate. Vexatious comments that may cause upset to other commentators, or that are attempting to espouse a particular wider political view, are reviewed before acceptance. But a certain amount of debate around a post topic is accepted, as long as it remains generally on topic and is not an attempt to become sounding board for some other cause.

Final decision on all comments is held by the blog author and is final.
