Snake Tosser

In May 2022, Dawn LaShawn Laprade, a 54 year old, of Vero Beach, South Florida drove up to 100 miles per hour as she intentionally tried to run down a police deputy ...

.... the events had started in May 2022, after a five-mile car chase began at around 10:15 am. She had suddenly sped off as the police were actually trying to pull over a different vehicle in Martin County.

This of course attracted the police officers attention, and a deputy then pursued the woman’s pick-up truck, which then slammed on its brakes, forcing pursuing officers to swerve, to avoid collision. Ms Laprade then took off again, and then attempted to hit three police cruisers, before crashing into a civilian vehicle and causing it to flip and injure three other people.

She is a large lady so was quickly approached by an officer, but instead of surrendering immediately, she threw what looked like a real snake at the deputy, just moments after the deputy had holstered his gun. The snake was in fact a plastic one and Ms Laprade was successfully arrested at Taser point.

Martin County Sheriff William Snyder said “Fortunately for her, instead of re-engaging with the firearm, he goes for a Taser and ends it right there. If she had thrown that snake, when the gun was out, we may be talking about police officer-involved shooting right now.”

Police charged Laprade with four counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, and fleeing and eluding. Her bond is set at $90,000 and additional charges were said to be a possibility. As usual, despite me waiting some considerable time to post this story, there is no Internet record of any court appearance or sentencing on this case.
