.... but sadly, not unknown.
They are of course incredibly dangerous, and often result in catastrophic or fatal injuries to the drivers hit, so Shavone Canales is rather a lucky girl. She said she was driving to a friend’s house after 9 pm, passing by the area near Interstate 10 and FM 16 outside Converse, San Antonio, Texas, when her wind shield suddenly shattered on the evening of Sunday the 20st of August 2023.
She pulled over and quickly called the police on 911, after realizing it was a spear that had broken through the glass and lodged in the steering column, just inches above her lap. Police attended the scene and crime scene investigators carefully removed the hunting weapon, which was about five feet long, from her car.
She told the police that she hadn't been involved in an incident with another driver and that “It was not road rage or anything. This was unprovoked and just completely random.” Initial police reports said that attending officers did not find the person who threw the spear.
Ms Canales believes that it was just someone randomly picking her vehicle “I think they’re trying to intentionally hurt somebody, I’m just thankful to be alive because I have kids.” She did have to pay around $400 to fix the wind shield.
