Googles Statistics

For reasons that completely elude me, Google provide fanastic web site analytics, but then don't allow you to display information from them, for visitors to see. I have looked around and there are some 'gadgets' and widgets that claim to be able to do this, but they often appear to require you to trust a strangers software with your Google log-in (UID) .... this seems a strange security risk for Google to ask their Bloggers to take.

They could just provide a gadget which allowed you to display some basic site statistics, some of which are very interesting in a masochistic sort of way.

Obviously this is not a terribly well followed blog, but it does get hits regularly every day.  For example the most popular 'all time' couple of posts on this blog are:
Or that 24,765 of the visitors to this blog to-date were from the United States (thank you all), with South Korea at 449 and Russia at 296 visitors bringing up the rear. The analytics, provide a myriad of now, daily, weekly, monthly, all time figures and breakdowns .... they even give you browser usage figures.
  • Internet Explorer (51%)
  • FireFox (24%)
  • Chrome (12%)
  • Safari (8%)
  • Opera (1%)
But my favourite is the audience map .....

How cool is that ..... current visitor usage by world map.  And yet this Google treasure, is locked away for private use, or only available via gadgets, written by who knows who, amateur coders, which may or may not break your templates. Google are usually so sharp, but for some reason they have missed a trick with this tool.

All comments are welcomed, or even just thanks if you enjoyed the post. But please make any comment relevant to the post it appears under. Off topic comments will be blocked or removed.

Moderation is on for older posts to stop spamming and comments that are off topic or inappropriate from being posted .... comments are reviewed within 48 hours. I don't block normal comments that are on topic and not inappropriate. Vexatious comments that may cause upset to other commentators, or that are attempting to espouse a particular wider political view, are reviewed before acceptance. But a certain amount of debate around a post topic is accepted, as long as it remains generally on topic and is not an attempt to become sounding board for some other cause.

Final decision on all comments is held by the blog author and is final.

Comments are always monitored for bad or abusive language, and or illegal statements i.e. overtly racist or sexist content. Spam is not tolerated and is removed.
