Saudi Dilemma

When the Yemeni capital Sanaa fell under the control of a militant movement called the Houthis ....

The World According To Riyadh
The World According To Riyadh ....

..... who are followers of the Zaydi branch of Shia Islam, a hardline Iranian MP was widely quoted in the  Sunni Arabic media as having boasted that Iran now 'controlled four Arab capitals' - 'Beirut' (Lebanon), 'Damascus' (Syria), 'Baghdad' (Iraq) and 'Sanaa' (Yemen) ... plus of course their own Shia Persian capital 'Tehran'.
Shia Muslims are in the majority in Iran, Iraq, Bahrain, Azerbaijan and, according to some estimates, Yemen. There are also large Shia communities in Afghanistan, India, Kuwait, Lebanon, Pakistan, Qatar, Syria, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. When you look at it like that, Iranian power is growing and encircling Saudi Arabia.

But its hard to feel any sympathy for the hard-line Saudi's, they are after all the sponsors of much of the hard-line Islam in the world, and have far more innocent blood on their hands than the Iranians.

They are also still arresting and charging 'liberals' with "insulting Islam through electronic channels" and "going beyond the realm of obedience" ... then sentencing them to long prison terms, and 1,000 lashes .... They have even expressed "surprise and dismay" and rejected all international media reports criticising the floggings for insulting Islam, as being just criticisms made under "the pretext of human rights".... After all, they point out,  they had let the blogger off the charge of 'apostasy', which would have carried a death sentence.

Still, the unspoken fear of Shia Iran getting nuclear weapons, even after or despite the deal the Iranians are cutting with the Obama Presidency, (which incidently, just kicks the can a decade down the road), has driven the Saudi's to consider desperate measures to counter the threat .... measures which may also eventually include its been rumoured, considering 'buying' nuclear bombs from Pakistan.

Throw Israel into the mix (who have already rejected the Iran nuclear deal), and is there anyone out there who doesn't believe that one of that lot will not use 'The Bomb'?
