.... a delivery courier who often handed over parcels, wearing trousers with a hole cut out from the crotch and with no underwear on, has been convicted of ten counts of indent exposure by a jury trial at Canterbury Crown Court.
Robert Jenner, of Snodland, Kent, who neighbours dubbed the ‘Naked Carpenter’, first came to public notice two years ago when renovating his house with no clothes on - including the garden.
The Iraq War veteran was arrested four times in just two months, after police were repeatedly called to his home. One witness described being so disgusted when he saw Jenner bend over while mixing cement that he called 999 and another said that he marched up to Jenner’s door and demanded he leave the house after he spotted the naturist leaning naked on a rake.
Jenner, who took part in naturist trips to Alton Towers and naked bike rides was acquitted of 13 allegations, after a jury decided his freedom of expression outweighed any alarm caused - however that defence applied to him in his own home and garden.
The latest charges stemmed from an increasingly bold Jenner striking out naked into the public sphere. Firstly when he started delivering parcels for nationwide courier service Hermes, while wearing trousers with a hole cut out of the crotch. Then when he was observed by a 14 year old girl walking through an alley while exposing himself.
His new defence was that delivery customers found it amusing that his privates were dangling out and that ‘Most people are indifferent' and insisted that his actions have never left anyone ‘alarmed or shocked’. He said that his genitals being exposed was a part of his belief in naturism, and that the human body isn't dirty .....
..... However the teenage girl stated that she felt ‘uncomfortable’ when she saw Jenner walking down a narrow alleyway with his penis exposed. She said: ‘I was wearing my school uniform and I was 14-years-old at the time. I looked away and walked away. He didn’t speak and nor did I.’ She added that she felt uncomfortable and her friend had previously warned her about a man who was often seen naked at his home and in his van.
He also walked through a shopping centre in clear see through trousers with no underwear, and exposed himself to a pregnant woman, and was wearing see-through trousers while running past a children’s play area in Leybourne Lakes Country Park. There were other instances in shops, and at peoples front doors, cited by the prosecution.
He wore a black suit, white shirt and tie in the dock - with crotch covered. The jury disagreed with his views on his actions harm, and he was later sentenced to two years in prison. Jenner has already been sacked as a Hermes courier, after his bosses received complaints about him flashing while making deliveries.
