John Owen Casford ..... Drunken Thief. |
.... John Owen Casford of Wellington New Zealand got drunk, and decided to break in to the cities zoo.
Then he decided that he would steal a squirrel monkey 'for his girlfriend' .... in other words he's something of a twat. However, he totally underestimated the monkeys response to this action. He got into Squirrel Monkeys compound and attempted to grab one ..... they attacked.
The keepers discovered Casford, still in the monkey compound, with a broken leg, two fractured teeth, a sprained ankle and bruises on his back. he was arrested, charged, and jailed for two years and seven months in prison, for the assault and other unrelated violent offences. Sadly the monkeys were found to be a bit distressed by his fight with them, and two were slightly injured (all recovered).
But still, considering how small squirrel monkeys are (Just 10 inches from nose to tail), they had shown remarkable troop solidarity if fighting him off and then subduing him. There are other recorded squirrel monkey attacks on humans (mainly as they feature heavily in the UK pet trade) if they feel threatened.
Spider Monkey Attacks To Defend Family Group .... |
Other monkey troops or families will react the same way ..... A spider monkey male attacked a drunk in a zoo who had jumped into their enclosure .... backed up by his family.
Evolved behavioural traits ; the species has survived by acting as a loyal group and so the behaviour is passed down through chemistry and culture. Physical size has nothing to do with it, tiny birds attack predatory hawks and ants attack anything that strays into their nest.
