Budgie Smugglers Are Back

In the last 20 years the speedo style men's swimwear, affectionately nick named Budgie Smugglers ...

The Budgie Smugglers Were Not A Pleasant Sight
The Budgie Smugglers Were Not A Pleasant Sight .....

..... have thankfully all but disappeared from our beaches and swimming pools, as baggy knee length shorts have replaced them.

Now I freely admit that I was, and am, glad to have seen their demise, as they were deeply unflattering to most male physiques, and with no pockets pretty useless as beachwear. But in these times of troubles there have been reports that the smugglers are back in vogue for generation Z.

Male Fashions That Should Be Illegal
Some Fashions Should Never Be Allowed .....

Around 34 per cent of 18 - 30 year old's polled by travel site Hoo, said that they would wear skimpy trunks, but perhaps not surprisingly just 5 per cent of men aged 41 to 50 would countenance wearing them again.

The pollsters found that four in 10 UK men try to look for functionality when selecting their swimwear, and that almost a quarter of the 2,000 men polled (24 per cent), said that they have either lost, or had belongings stolen, during their pool or beach trips.

While 56 per cent wished that there was a more practical way to carry items while in swimwear .... apparently a small shoulder bag, or handy bumbag never crosses their minds ... that's generation Z for you, learning nothing from others.

Also the success of the Olympic diver Tom Daly in the diving doubles has inspired this change in tastes (although I can't help noticing that most 18 - 30 year old's do not in fact have the bodies of Olympic divers). The travel/hotel booking website then launched a range of limited edition trunks (with pockets) named JUNX (which I assume refers to keeping men's junk in them)

The  JUNX-branded swimming trunks are lightweight trunks which provide a one-stop storage solution for sun cream, keys, phones, books, wallets - and even cocktails. Although how you would swim with all this crap strapped around your waist is beyond me ... but at £14.99 a pair, they sold out in just 48 hours ..... a very worrying trend if you ask me!!
