Ain't Got No Body

Workmen were sent to clear a rough sleepers 'hobo' encampment .....

These tent encampments often spring up across the country, as illegal immigration and the general drug epidemic places more people into homelessness. This clear out was part of a local police operation Applerose, after drugs and aggressive begging had become a problem in the small town.

However this clearance came to a sudden halt, after the workmen found a human skull in a plastic bag. The police were called after the discovery, and one of the rough sleepers challenged the workmen with the immortal words 'What are you doing with my skull?'.

The man then took the police and workers to banks of the River Dart, where he had stashed another human skull in a plastic bag ... A police spokesman said

"There is no criminal investigation taking place and as long as the coroner has no interest in them then they should be able to go back to the person who owns them. I'd imagine they were acquired from one of his friends in the vagrant community."

Later forensics by the Centre for Anatomy and Human Identification at the University of Dundee showed the skulls to be between 60 and 100 years old. It was also established that one was male and the other female, with both over 21 years old when they died. The female skull was the better preserved of the two, having traces of hair present, indicating that it was kept in a crypt type environment.

However, no crime could be proved, and the police were obliged to hand them back to the man.
