Cat In A Hat

Hatty is a cat. A very conceited cat at that .....

Hatty The Cat ..... All Is Not As It Appears

.... She led the fire brigade and sundry other onlookers and rescue types such as the RSPCA, Network Rail and 'volunteers' a very merry dance, after apparently becoming stuck up the Royal Albert railway bridge in Cornwall over the river Tamar.

I say apparently because no one bothered to ask if she was in fact stuck. So for six days in May 2019 these authorities tried to coax, cajole, and bully Hatty from her perch to no avail. The fire brigade employed a 135 foot ladder and at a cost £500 per hour ..... meanwhile Hatty killed a seagull for food, and then watched all the 'rescue' attempts, with the contempt that only cats can deploy.

Eventually after the six fruitless days, and with Network rail threatening to close the rail line over the bridge, Hatty apparently got bored, and overnight decamped back home again. She arrived a little slimmer and a bit smelly, but otherwise healthy .... thus proving once again that cats are actually rarely stuck in trees (or bridges). She has since been grounded by her owner and is now a house cat.

I suspect that if the well-meaning had simply left her alone, she would have gone home the first day she was spotted.
