Australia went through a much rougher second wave of Covid-19 than the first wave and had to introduce local lock-downs in early July ....
We're Just Sunbathing ... Honestly Officer! |
.... this stretched the police and health authorities to the limit, especially in the cities where lockdowns were in force.
But when two men called the police, saying that they were lost in the bushland of the Royal National Park in Otford, South of Sydney in New South Wales a full search was initiated with police helicopters, and bush rangers etc.
The Royal National Park in Otford Has Deer ... |
The first of the men a 30-year-old man was found naked and carrying a backpack on a walking track and the second man, a 49-year-old, who was partially clothed was found a little time later. The men told police officers that they were sunbathing naked on a nearby beach, when they were "startled by a deer" and ran into the bushland.
As they were at the very least breaching the lockdown rules, the two unnamed men were fined A$1,000 (US$750; £547) each for breaching a public health order banning those in greater Sydney from travelling outside the area. I can't speculate as to what else they were up to.
NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller said "It's difficult to legislate against idiots. Clearly putting people at risk by leaving home without a proper reason, and I think then on top of that, getting lost in the national park, and diverting important resources away from the health operation, I think they should be embarrassed.""
