Quick score reviews of the shows seen, listed in no particular order:
Henning Wehn - German Stand Up and TV panel shows. Not quite up to form this year. 4 Stars.

Camels - Two man sketch show. Promising, but patchy in parts. 3.5 Stars.
Flo and Joan - My 5 Star Vote |
Flo And Joan - Sister musical comedy duo - TV and adverts. Witty and sharp lyrics. 5 Stars from me 4.5 Stars from others.
Piff The Magic Dragon - Adult comic magician with dragon costume, a dancer with big boobs and a small dog. 4.5 Stars
Adam Larter Boogie Nights - Mission 'Saving Disco from Heavy Rock'. He very nearly succeeds, 4.5 Stars
Des Kapital Mao That's What I Call Music - One man crooner with clever political message, but 3.5 Stars

Police Cops - Clever spoof of every buddy TV cop show ever shown. 5 Stars from others 4.5 Stars from me.
Great British Mysteries 1599 - Weakest of the shows, although it got better towards the end. 3 Stars
Marvelus All The Marvel Comics - Two nerdy marvel comic movie fans, relive their favourite characters from the films. 4 Stars
Overall a mixed bag of shows, but not an unsuccessful tour up north .... most of the acts didn't let us down and raised a laugh. Hopefully we will be doing a few more before time brings them to their inevitable end. These reviews are personal preferences, and one persons humour is another's big yawn and wristwatch glance.
Oh, and one other thing - Scotland's obsession with the late Mrs Thatcher remains just as strong as ever, as evinced by yet another fringe show about her being advertised ....there seems to be one every year.
Scotland Can't Get Over Her ...... |
..... Scotland - Get over it! She's dead! It was 30 years ago. She didn't 'destroy Scotland' .... The Socialist model was already failing, change was coming anyway.
Have Flo and Joan done some TV adverts? If so I've seen one - I didn't like it just because an Ad company is copying YouTube content which I find annoying, along with the ads which show people having selfie "fun" in various holiday locations - it all looks too contrived.
ReplyDeleteAll your reviews have high scores (which is great) - was there no rubbish or are they just not covered?
Oh there's plenty of rubbish at the fringe alright, but:
Delete1) I select the shows weeks in advance and
2} Experience, means I know how to filter most of the rubbish out e.g. "free shows" in pubs.
3) As it gets evermore expensive to put on shows, the real amateur trying their luck is being pushed out the fringe.
4) Finally, only 4 stars are even mentioned on the flyers, and only 5 stars count for many people. So 3 stars, whilst not indicative of a very bad show, or performance, suggest that humour may be rationed to a degree.
If your worse than that, and we certainly have seen worse than that, then no one prints ratings of the show ... it goes ignored.
Finally here's some Flo and Joan video links. Make your mind up from those.
These reviews are personal preferences (of two or three people), and one persons humour is another's big yawn and watch look.
