All In The White House Family |
First his son-in-law Jared Kushner became a senior adviser to the commander-in-chief and then Ivanka Trump has joined the Administration as 'first daughter' and as the unpaid 'Assistant to the President'. Its kind of strange to see a US President appoint members of his own family to the administration .... but then the whole administration is looking increasingly strange as the weeks go by.
I know its still early days, but there is a definite whiff of death about this regime already as first political paralysis (immigration bans and legislation rejected and budget likely to be rejected as well), and then scandal (Russia) keep the administration fire fighting on every front. There is also the fact that despite promises to the otherwise, it appears that the Donald will still get quarterly updates on his business interests from his son, so more trouble to come from that direction.
So maybe its no surprise when we start to think of Archie Bunker and the clan in All in the Family.
On the plus side, so far the administration is transparent. Like a bad magician, it's dropping balls, losing handkerchiefs and the dove is defecating on its head. It would be entertaining if it wasn't so sad.
ReplyDeleteTrump is an entirely new phenomena in Western politics ... he may actually be unstable (I don't mean mad), and totally inconsistent in any policy he follows.
DeleteHe has now about faced on:
Delete1. NATO
2. Russia
3. Syria
4. China and
5. Presidential travel costs (He criticised Obama for the expense of his travel arrangements but is on course to have cost more in 1 yr than Obama did in 8 ys!).
He is just making up policies on the hoof and that makes for unstable government and could lead to some state like North Korea misreading him, to catastrophic affect.
It's going to be a bumpy ride with The Donald and his supporters are likely to disappointed with the fact that he can't deliver any of his pledges.
I suspect that Real politik has bitten him on then ass and now he's back pedalling like mad on all the nonsense he spouted before the election. Thanks for the comment.
