Mister Bonds Toys

The gadgets from James Bond movies are always a popular subject at Christmas ....

James Bond - Thunderball Rocket Belt - In The Posters

Here's a few of the older ones to jog your memories

  • The Deadly Briefcase: From Russia With Love 1963 - it held a hidden AR7 sniper rifle with 40 rounds and tear gas disguised as talcum powder.
  • Bell Rocket Belt: Thunderball 1965 - probably the first time the world had seen the Bell Industries in those pre-Internet days.

  • Rocket Propelled Cigarette: You Only Live twice 1967 - a rocket propelled bullet fired from within a false cigarette.
  • 'Little Nellie' aka Wallis: You Only Live Twice 1967 - mini auto-gyro flyer that could take on anything with its rockets, air mines, machine guns, flame throwers, and guided missiles.
  • A Safe Cracker: On Her Majesties Secret Service 1969 - Just as it says a safe cracker and with built in photo-copier - ideal for photocopying a copy of playboy ...
  • Rolex Submariner Watch and Buzz Saw: - Live And Let Die 1973 - perfect for telling the time and escaping from tanks of sharks. Oh and it had a powerful magnet that could deflect a bullet.
  • Seiko 0674 Watch with Tele-text Printer: The Spy Who Loved Me 1977 - the first text messages if you like.
  • Ski Pole Gun: The Spy Who Loved Me 1977 - added to the dangers of being on the piste.
  • Lotus Esprit Submarine: The Spy Who Loved Me 1977 - fastest thing in the sea or on the land.
  • Spike Umbrella: For Your Eyes Only 1981 - could impale and entrap villains - later adapted by Bulgarians to fire poison pellets.
  • Crocodile Submarine: Octopussy 1983 - a spy submarine disguised as a crocodile - beats the earlier, snorkel with a seagull on top, of an earlier movie.
  • Spying Robot Dog: A View To A Kill 1985 - was beaten to the punch by K9 in Doctor Who who appeared eight years earlier.
  • Ring Camera: A View To A Kill 1985 - even now we don't have anything better.
  • Boombox: The Living Daylights 1987 - a boombox that fired rockets ... hmm, makes the party go with a bang.
  • Broom Radio: Licence to Kill 1989 - rather a pathetic radio hidden in a broom, but there nonetheless.
  • Cigarette and Toothpaste Bomb: Licence to Kill 1989 - Clean your teeth with 'Detonite' tooth paste or combine with cigarette and blow up villains ... your choice.
  • X-Ray Polaroid Camera: Licence to Kill 1989 - Pictures, X-Ray and then Laser beam out of the camera flash ... beats airport x-ray cameras. flash, bang, wallop what a picture, if you like!
  • Grenade Pen: Golden Eye 1995 - Parker Jotter with a bang on the punctuation ... 4 second fuse time.
  • Omega Seamaster with Laser Cutter and Detonator: Golden Eye 1995 - Upgrade on the Buzz saw on the Rolex Submariner.
  • Ericsson Mobile Phone: Tomorrow Never Dies 1997 - do you remember when Ericsson ruled the world of phones? Seems an age ago now, but they might have stayed that way if the stun gun, finger print scanner and remote control app for the BMW had been available to the rest of us.
  • X-Ray Glasses: The World Is Not Enough 1999 - At last my boyhood dream (and later teenage one as well, but for different purposes) realised .... possibly the most sought after gadget (well by males), in all the movies.

X-Ray Specs - My First View Of Them ... US Comic Adverts

  • Bagpipe Flamethrower: The World Is Not Enough 1999 - Bagpipes that spit bullets and flames out .... many would say that simply playing is enough to kill most opposition.
  • Invisible Camouflage Aston Martin Vanquish: Die Another Day 2002 - the ultimate secret agents car, but forever getting rear ended.

..... I wont bother with the recent movies as they are too well known.

  1. I'm not a fan of the Bond movies although I enjoyed the odd one before I was 13.
I agree with your article that Sean Connery is Bond.

    1. The Bond movies were on every Christmas when I was a kid (and every other age since now I think on it) .... I have always found them entertaining, if not too intellectually challenging. Still, the gadgets do make good quiz questions.

    2. Yes, the Bond films overall tend to crop up in quizzes; I was just watching Only Connect and it featured "Daniel Craig" Bond films in the Sequences (2nd) round.
