Ice Cream Wars ..... Cut Up Rough |
Their willingness to resort to violence to defend their turf is becoming almost legendary.
I have posted on this phenomena in the past, but its a topic that seems to just give and give ..... In July 2019, Tony Del Busso from the Hinckley, Leicestershire, England, an ice cream vendor known locally as 'Mr Cool', woke up to find that two of his three ice-cream vans were on fire. The fire then spread to his house, causing considerable damage before fire crews put it out.
Mr Del Busso blamed local rival ice cream sellers for the arson attack, that has left him facing financial ruin, and the end of the family run business that was set up by his father in the 1970's.
“I think this could be down to an ice cream trade war. I’ve heard about them happening, but never locally. It’s frightening to think we could be at the centre of one. There’s numerous rivals, around three or four work the same patch, but it’s never come to aggression.
Nine times out of ten you just accept somebody else got there first. In busy periods it can get a bit heated, but we rarely clash with each other.”
....... apparently someone doesn't agree with that view. Humans capacity to react violently never ceases to amaze me ....
Do these ice cream wars happen abroad or is it only a British thing?
ReplyDeleteReally good question ... And one I cant answer. A google search suggests that it centred on Glasgow with odd offshoots in the rest of the UK only, but I am happy to be corrected. Thanks for the comment.
