In a confirmation of everything that I have said about talentless celebrity in the UK ....

'Celebrity' Comes Cheaply These Days

 .... a poll by Acuvue of 1,000 members of generation Z (young people between the ages of 15 and 24 year olds), came up with exactly the results you might expect. 

When questioned about their probable career paths and future aspirations:

• Over 25 per cent said that they wanted to be a famous YouTuber i.e. VLogger.
• The same number said that they would only take a "normal job" if it paid more than £40,000 pa starting pay.
• 18 per cent would consider becoming a teacher.
• 17 per cent would like to be a doctor.
• 14 per cent would also consider being a lawyer.
• but 6 per cent fancied quick 'fame' via a reality TV show such as 'Love Island' or a similar show. 
• 4 per cent quite fancied becoming an Member of Parliament.
• and just 3 per cent wanted to become a dentist.

But

• 20 per cent also think that University is a waste of time.
• and 18 per cent wanted to start their own business.

.... all while getting these quick riches, with as little work or education as possible, 50 per cent also wanted to get married (mostly by age 30), with 75 per cent also wanting to have children.

Suggest Gen Z Will Be Disappointed ...

 

Prediction: 95 per cent of them will not achieve any of these get rich quick objectives, and will have to accept much more mundane life paths. The employment reality in the UK is as follows: In 2018

• 21 per cent of workers in the UK were in ‘professional’ jobs.
• 10 per cent were in an Administrative / Clerical / Secretarial jobs.
• 10 per cent were in a skilled trade.
• 9 per cent work in the Care, Leisure and Other Service sectors.
• 8 per cent worked in Sales and Customer Service.
• 6 per cent in factories (Process, Plant and Machine Operations).
• While the percentage of workers in 'Elementary' jobs – the lowest skilled type of occupation – was 10 per cent.

Only a tiny per cent will become rich via Music, Sport, YouTube or TV reality shows, and probably only those with professional careers have a chance of wealth through a lifetime of work. The other 75 - 85 per cent will muddle through life with no great wealth, just like every other generation.

So when reality bites for this generation, its gonna hurt .... but god help the rest of us, when they start taking power.
