| Untidy Gardens Are A Blight |
... he had filled his garden with junk, including a car, building rubble and old white goods such as fridges, as well as wooden pallets, and unwanted furniture.
The owner was finally issued by an untidy land notice from Lewes District Council, which gave him two months to clear the property, a local councillor said that "The outside had become a blight on the landscape for people living nearby, and those using a footpath next to it." .... but the home owner simply ignored the council notice.
The council then acted, and it took the contractors two and a half days to clear the land, and the council issued a bill for £2,700 which will be redeemable when next the property is sold. Its a pity that councils take so long to act ion these matters as it often leads to neighbourly disputes and even violence. Some people are just naturally slovenly and inconsiderate neighbours (I have one myself), but fear of starting a feud and legal battles, means that most neighbours hesitate and say nothing until the problem has grown to such epic proportions that even councils start to take notice .... but by then, the neighbourhood has been blighted.
