You usually see them in young fans bedrooms (film, sports or music), or occasionally in collectors displays.
Sometimes they can lead to peculiar or even sinister behaviour, where a fan crosses the line and becomes an obsessive and stalker. But usually its just an innocent admiration and the cutouts can often become funny additions to a room
Cut Outs Are Mostly Just Fun Items .... |
However, no matter what purpose they are used for, they are rarely an object of much remark, and don't make the news .... well until now.
Alison Loves Danny |
Allison Closs is a Pennsylvania schoolgirl at Carlisle High School who took a cut-out of Danny Devito as her senior prom date. The story spread on social media and made the main news outlets around the globe, such as the New York Post and she was quoted as saying that "I couldn't find myself a date in real life or with an actual human. So I bought one on Amazon. I have always loved Danny. I loved him on 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia', I loved him in 'Hercules' and 'Matilda'. I just love him in every form he takes. Danny was there for me when I really needed him. He treats me the way a woman should be treated."
Danny Loves Allison |
“I considered other celebrities, like Bill Nye the Science Guy,” she told the Press. “But many of them would [have required] ordering a custom-made cutout, and I’m not about that money life, if you know what I’m saying.” Mr Devito cut-outs on the other hand were already available and she decided were worth the $100 price tag. Barring one awkward moment when she yanked on her date’s leash a little too hard, and Mr DeVito's facsimile face-planted into her rear end, she said that he was the perfect gentleman she had expected.
And that as they say was the end of that, until the story reached the twitter account of Devito's 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia' co-star Rob McElhenney, who mocked up a picture on his instagram account, of his co-star carrying a cardboard cut-out of Alison into the pub set ('Paddys') in the show with the legend "I heard you took cardboard Danny to Prom. What a coincidence. He took cardboard Allison to Paddy's".
Pope Francis for some reason chose to pose with two cardboard cutouts of unknowns in a book store - strange choice for a pontiff.
