In the last US elections in 2020 we wrote about the geriatric leadership choices facing the US electorate
Meet The New Boss ... Same As The Old Boss |
Well, scratch two and replay again .... only both candidates are even older.
- Donald Trump will be aged 78 by the time the election takes place (and was aged 70 when he first took office).
- Joe Biden will be aged 81 (and was aged 77 when he first took office).
Now I'm no longer in the first flush of youth, nor even the last flush, and indeed I am of pensionable age, and despite a daily exercise routine .... I can now occasionally feel my age pressing on me (for instance I can't run anymore) .... god knows what that will be like when I'm nearly 80. Am I fit enough to run a country right now .... sure ... but would I be fit enough in another decade or more. No way.
Country For Old Men |
I repeat what my concerns were then, only more so. The US political system is sclerotic, and this aged Presidential candidate list is the inevitable result. It needs a reboot and some reform, and continually having a US political leadership that is a decade or two older than most other countries leaders, has inevitably got to lead to some issues.
I remember when it was China that had old men as leaders. Now its leader is a decade or more younger than the USA's
ReplyDeleteFor Biden at least we have to assume that this is his last election campaign. Trump? Who knows. His ego is huge and his grip on the Republicans is so great, that if he lost this time I wouldn't rule out another attempt in 4 years. Thanks for the comment.
