Who Ate All The Pies

Apparently Doctors in the US have decided that being a 'fat bastard' (aka morbidly obese), is no longer a personal responsibility issue, but is in fact to be classed as a 'disease' - on the par in fact with cancer.

The approved measure as voted on by the American Medical Association was "RESOLVED, That our American Medical Association recognise obesity as a disease state with multiple pathophysiological aspects requiring a range of interventions to advance obesity treatment and prevention."

American Medical Association After You!

Now definitions of fatness and obesity have varied over the centuries, cultures and especially in the West over the last few decades, as creeping 'political correctness' has placed its death like grip over the language. The most common measure of obesity these days, is the fatally flawed. Body Mass Index (BMI). This looks at a person's weight divided by height, squared. A BMI over 30 is considered obese. It often labels muscle-heavy professional athletes as obese, with Rugby players for example all classed as 'obese' or worse, when in fact they are super fit.

Diseased or Fat?

Obesity should of course be worked out via a persons ratio of fat to muscle - so that those who may have a slim frame, but a high percentage of dangerous body fat, are not still classified as "average weight", which is the case under BMI.

The reasons for this sudden disease classification are also rather suspect, given the US context. Health care in the US is largely paid for via private insurance schemes via the employer / unions / or private individuals, so opening up a brand new avenue of 'disease', for treatment, one which 'afflicts' 35% of the US population, has to be good business for the medical profession. So undoubtedly there is a large element of self interest in tapping this 'lard lake', especially as its one that will probably never dry up.

Of course they can't admit to this, so there are lots of wishy washy noises about expecting that this will lead to better 'treatment' (better dieting and exercise????), and the focus on obesity treatment and prevention. But apparently insurance companies are under no obligation to cover obesity prevention and treatments - certainly not without substantial hikes in insurance premiums. After all, any decision that at a stroke classifies a third of the US population as 'diseased' has consequences.

Of course this is not a completely isolated medical stance. 'Alcoholism' for example (and other Drug abuses), are treated as a disease rather then a lack of self control .... but strangely this hasn't resulted in any serious reduction in the number of people who have these 'diseases' ... so why obesity would be different, is hard to fathom.

The real illness in our society is the creeping removal of self responsibility via the illness that is Political Correctness .... we are becoming a society that blames everyone else for our personal failures.

UGLY MUG

According to press reports a gentleman from the Midlands area of the UK rang the police using the 999 emergency only number, after the escort/prostitute he had booked, turned out to be ‘uglier’ than expected – apparently he told the police that

"I've arranged a meeting with her, but beforehand I've asked her for an honest description, otherwise when I get there I'm not going to use her services. Basically she has mis-described herself, misrepresented herself totally.” He wanted her prosecuted for ‘breaching the Sale of Goods Act’.

Would You?

He then said that after he told her to her face that she wasn’t good lucking enough, she took his car keys, ran away from the car and threw them back at him … it was then that he called 999.

"She was angry because she obviously thinks I owe her a living or something".

The more (or less) discerning amongst you may have noted that in fact she was committing no criminal offence (until the transaction took place), whether under criminal or civil law such as the ‘Sale of Goods Act 1979’, under which he based his complaint.

He however was breaching the law by soliciting a prostitute for sex, and as he was stupid enough to use his mobile phone to complain, he was traced and Despite the man refusing to give his details, police were able to identify him and the Police have sent him a letter warning him about his actions.

The Lands That Time Forgot

There used to be a time when the countries of Central and South America were safe havens for escaping Nazi's such as Adolf Eichmann, and Otto Skorzeny (the Great Nazi War Hero) for example, set up a secret organization named Die Spinne which helped as many as 600 former SS men escape from Germany to Spain, Argentina, Paraguay, Chile, Bolivia, and other countries.

Adolf Eichmann Lived In Argentina.

Communists such as Trotsky, would also use Central and South American countries as 'safe havens' .... he famously was killed by Stalin's assassins in Mexico City.

Leon Trotsky - Mexico

The other group that found safe havens in Central and South American countries, were the US and Italian Mafia such as Lucky Luciano, who used these countries as bases of operations when the US or Italian authorities were breathing too heavily on the back of their necks .... Cuba was effectively a Mafia state for a period just after the Second World War.

But now a different breed see South America, and Ecuador in particular, as the place of preference for claiming refugee status ...... now its alleged rapists such as Julian Assange or traitors such as Edward Snowden (who has also asked Ecuador for Asylum) who appear to be the main claimants to the dubious honour roll who have used Southern American states to escape justice.

Julian Assange and Edward Snowden - Both Claiming Asylum Ecuador

A quick glance at Ecuador shows that this is not the Sweden of South America (which is probably a good thing as far as Mr Assange was concerned) .... in fact its a rather typical country for that region, with a history of corrupt weak civilian regimes, interspersed with a military junta (1972–79), and as recently as 2010 they declared a one-week state of emergency, which put the military in charge of public order and suspended civil liberties. It also has the usual South America habit of exploiting the the indigenous Indians human rights (which amounts to about 25% of the population) .... but, hey, that's par for the course.

So isn't it rather strange that these self styled champions of democratic freedom choose this rather socially backward state as the model 'state' to get to? ..... unless of course its the fact that it has no extradition treaties with most European countries and the US?

Writing on the Wall

Yes for the White Americans the writing is on the wall as concerns the demographics ….. reports by the US Census Bureau confirmed recently that half (49.9%) of American children under the age of five are of a racial or ethnic minority, and is further evidence that the white American will cease to be the majority of the population within a very few years. There has been a small increase in the absolute numbers of White citizens, but this is only due to European immigration in 2012, and the data confirms that for the first time in over a century, there were more deaths than births among white Americans.

Soon, about five years in fact, the racial minorities will make up more than half of children under 18, and thus technically cease to be racial minorities. So as has been posted before on this blog, the minority populations are growing faster than the white community due to immigration (many illegal) and high birth rates in the Hispanic community.

The Census Bureau said 63% of Americans were white and non-Hispanic.

Hispanic America, The Future USA?

The fastest-growing minority groups were Asians, whose population expanded by 2.9% in 2012, and Hispanics, by 2.2% and it shouldn’t be forgotten that many classed as ‘Hispanic’ are also ‘white’ e.g. Emilio Estevez, his father actor Martin Sheen (born Ramón Estévez) and brother Charlie Sheen (born Carlos Estevez) – all of whom are Irish/Spanish descent.

Chinese - The Future Belongs to Them?

Still, it can’t help be noted once again that the future of the world won’t be ‘white’ … the Chinese, who don’t have this race wipe out issue, can sit and wait out the next century as the future belongs to them.

Lord Shiva In Flood

This image from the Associated Press caught my attention, not so much for the story about Indian unpreparedness for the annual monsoon floods (which is a bit like Siberians not expecting snow in Winter), but for its striking look.

Shiva Caught In Flood

If you were to remove the background and just presented Lord Shiva "the Destroyer" or "the Transformer"  then it could be almost as though Shiva is walking through the destruction. It maybe reminds us of one of the other 'old ones' ...

Shiva Rising From Chaos

Maybe 'Ophion', the first of the Titan Gods to rule Olympus (he was overthrown by Kronos), who was believed to have been born fully formed in the sea, wading ashore from the chaos (in truth some versions suggest he was a snake ... but why ruin a good bit of symbolism).

Dictators Lions

One of the stranger aspects of a dictators fall (if the fall is absolute), are what happens to their idiocentricities. Most dictators and tyrants have pets (probably because they can never trust humans - after all they usually had blood on their own hands from their rise to the top) - but no one ever says what happened to them after the dictators fall from power or were deposed. So for example what ever happened to Lenin’s cats, Hitler’s dog, Gaddafi’s camel, Caligula’s horse, or even jokingly Stalin’s spider - and of course in Africa (and also the Balkan style dictators of the Caucuses) -  the tyrants of the region usually have a Lion.

Lenin And One Of His Cats

These animal tales, invariably end in the very sad and nasty death of a perfectly innocent animal, starved to death, or forgotten, usually in some squalid zoo or compound, but not all end that way. One assumes that Stalin didn't have Lenin's cats killed, and that they found a home somewhere.

Hitler and Blondi

Hitler's dog 'Blondi' met her death at the command of her master, when he ordered that the cyanide capsules prepared for his own death, be tested on his favourite pet (partly to stop her being captured by the Soviets), and the dog died as a result. Strangely Hitler became completely inconsolable, which is somewhat strange as he ordered the trial. Equally oddly, the body of a dog (thought to be 'Blondi') was exhumed and photographed by the Soviets ...

Caligula and Incitatus

Caligula’s horse "Incitatus" had a stable of marble, with an ivory manger, purple blankets, and a collar of precious stones. 'Dio Cassius' has indicated that the horse was attended to by servants, and was fed oats mixed with gold flake. Suetonius also wrote that it was said that Caligula planned to make Incitatus a consul, and that the horse would "invite" dignitaries to dine with him in a house outfitted with servants there to entertain such events. Now whatever the truth is about some of these assertions, its beyond doubt that the horse was spoilt rotten .....  It is known that Incitatus was a racehorse, but its believed that the horse never raced after Caligula's fall. One report suggests that it was reportedly down-graded to a stall in a regular stable without complaint, but sadly it was most likely 'executed' after the emperor's overthrow.

Kadyrov and Pet Lion

Ramzan Kadyrov, is one of eastern Europe's lesser known Russian backed dictators. He rules Chechnya in the Caucuses, and is the current winner of a violent power struggle with Chechen warlords, Sulim Yamadayev and Said-Magomed Kakiev for overall military authority, and with Alu Alkhanov for political authority. He is credited with bringing peace and stability to the region, but at the cost of having practically no human rights - however to be fair, human rights are never high up the agenda in that region.

He has the usual dictators appetites (particularly in a region where a leader can be killed almost any time), and has a live fast die young attitude, with sex scandals, a large classic car collection, antique knives etc etc - again to be fair his building program has been aimed primarily at rebuilding the country after the latest bout of fighting .... he also has a private menagerie of wild animals - in this case, the dictators favourites, lions.

Gaddafi and His Pets

In North Africa, Colonel Gaddafi had a personal animal farm where he kept over 500 ostriches, rare-breed camels, hybrid cattle, and several breeds of sheep and goats, but the whole 'farm / zoo' complex was abandoned when conflict erupted. All of these animals were left to die, many suffering a similar fate to the abandoned animals in Libya’s Tripoli Zoo who were shot, eaten, or starved to death. One of his sons, Saadi Gaddafi, personally owned nine lions in Tripoli zoo, and another son, Saif al-Islam, kept exotic animals at his farmhouse. The family abandoned all of these animals to their fates when they ran for their lives.

Saddam Hussein and Tiger Cub ... note the gloves.

Similarly Saddam Hussein would have pictures taken of himself with lions or tigers ..... I don't know if he actually kept any as pets, but I wouldn't be surprised if he did.

Emperor Haile Selassie and a Royal Lion - Not Ethiopian

In Black Africa, Idi Amin famously used to feed the crocodiles of the Nile - often with the victims of his torture prisons .... the crocodiles lived until long after he was deposed. While Emperor Haile Selassie had a zoo and lions (he was after all the Conquering 'Lion of the Tribe of Judah') - after his fall, the zoo and its animals didn't suffer the usual fates, and indeed after he founded the zoo in 1948 (with seven founding lions - five males and two females) which were said to have been captured in south-western Ethiopia, it became an ark of sorts. Because, although the geographical origin of the lions in the zoo remains controversial, these animals are now thought to be the only examples left of this kind of Lion i.e. They are genetically distinct from all other existing lions in Africa (their manes are black and go down their backs and chests) .... so oddly the dictators caging of them, actually preserved a unique sub species, after hunting killed off the wild population.

But as a rule of thumb, being a dictators pet is often a recipe for a short life, with a sad end. So next time you see a tyrant fall, spare a thought for the animals in his private menagerie, who most likely will die as well .....

Meet The New Boss - Same As The Old Boss

After all the hard-man tactics that the Turkish Prime Minister and Police have shown in recent days, its a bit of mystery as to why the UK continues to back Turkeys membership of the EU?

Its an increasingly Islamic state, which uses words like 'hooligans', 'foreign (read Israeli) plots' and 'terrorists' to describe civil unrest, and they even threatened to send in army against the civilians  ..... much like the Syrian regime in fact (although they would totally fail to recognise the irony). The Further South and East you go from Istanbul, the more medieval the social state of Turkey - about 100 yrs per 100k.

Taksim Square - Centre of Protest and Police Action

Many years ago I went to 'Adana' (or a name like that) in the South of Turkey, it wasn't really a tourist spot at the time, and may not be now, although it had some nice spots. It was in fact a Turkish / Kurdish town, at a time when it was illegal to claim to be 'Kurdish'. These were the days of Kurdish attacks and a semi-military 'civilian' regime, and such was the atmosphere that I was followed for a time by men in dark suits and sun glasses. I guess they realised that I was 'harmless' and left me after a couple of days.

I left not long after them, because apart from a few superficial modern trappings (electricity, cars, TV's and telephones etc), socially, you might as well have been back in the late 17th century or even earlier - this even though many people I met in bars claimed to be non religious - which as they were drinking makes sense I guess.

Outside of the town centre, it was only 70 yrs or so from the genocide of the Armenian Christians in the town ..... which saw up to 30,000 massacred (ignore the revisionist Turkish Historians who always claim hardly anyone was hurt - although they can't explain where the several million Christians who lived in Turkey for millennia, disappeared to). You could still find those in the town, whose parents remembered it being discussed by their parents, and they weren't shy about talking about it (this included throat slitting signs by one elderly gentleman). As I was only staying there to look at the ruins of Tarsus (about 10 minutes on a 'dolmus'), and then head westward back to the 20th century, I chose not to hang around.

Most certainly Sweden it was not .... this was not a town where social enlightenment was going to sprout of the ground, certainly not in the outlying rural areas surrounding the main town, or even the town centre. I seem to recall that not long before I arrived in the area, there had been some sort of incident with the villagers of one of those minor Islamic religions that the rest hated, and they had been burnt out (but I could be wrong on this date, as it was a long time ago and my memory of events may be mixed up).

Thirty five years later, the current Islamic regime seems very much in the same mould as their predecessors  ..... the descriptions of the protesters in terms that the Iranians or Syrians would understand, is a sign that despite a few Western politicians wet dreams, this is not a cuddly liberal regime, but rather one as hard-line as any other in the region.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan
and Mehmet VI - The Last Ottoman Sultan

Meet the new boss. Same as the old Boss.

Crime and Non Punishment

Police Detection Rates are always a concern in the UK where they have I believe since 2005/ 2006 the police have displayed police statistics using a new set of definitions when they stopped using the old term of
'cleared up', and started describing crime performance in terms of 'detections' and 'sanction detections' being classified separately. I have to therefore give the explanations of these newish terms:

Detections: A term used for resolved cases whether it be though police-generated detections (sanction detections), or those resolved through administrative means (non-sanction detections).

The official definition for sanction detection is as follows:

A 'sanctioned detection' occurs when

(1) a notifiable offence (crime) has been committed and recorded;
(2) a suspect has been identified and is aware of the detection;
(3) the CPS evidential test is satisfied;
(4) the victim has been informed that the offence has been detected, and;
(5) the suspect has been charged, reported for summons, or cautioned, been issued with a penalty notice for disorder, or the offence has been taken into consideration when an offender is sentenced.

The last full set of published figures I could find were these

Crime Detection Rates of UK 2010 -2012

As you can see, the rates are very low for some crimes, and show a small trend of year on year decline (which seems to have been happening for decades) ... In fact this rate has generally shown a downward trend in detection rates since 1980. It's been pointed out that “in simple terms, the number of detections achieved has failed to keep pace with the rise in recorded crime…or when crime numbers have fallen, the number of detections has fallen more”.

International Comparisons show that indeed the UK, with a population of about 60 million people, has a murder detection rate of close to 75 per cent. In the US, with a population of 312 million, there was a detection rate of close to 72 per cent. I found this set of figures for 1997 which show that this problem of low detection rates afflicts most of the Western world.

1997 Police Detection Rates

However there could be a quick way of boosting detection rates .... better police photos!!

I'll give you an example, a male employee was killed in an attack at a south London betting shop when
his attacker walked in and forced his way behind the counter. The man was found dead with a serious head injury .... it wasn't reported if there was even any money stolen in the attack. The betting office was next to a neighbourhood police office (which wasn't manned at the time of the incident - are they ever?) but this didn't deter the violent murder.

Police issued a photo of the man they wanted to speak to in connection with the event, but its poor and faded. I spent just a few moments and improved it considerably .... as you can see the picture on the left is the police version, while mine is on the right .... surely the second version is more likely to get a suspect found?

I think a lot of police photos show this same lack of understanding about how photos can be quickly enhanced to increase the chance of detection rates.

Police are looking for this man in connection to a betting office murder

Its about time the police used a little bit of the technology freely available, and gave themselves a better chance of catching the ne'er-do-wells of our times ....

Cosmic Cosmo

Cosmo Sarson is name new to me ..... apparently he is one of a growing number of street artists who are emulating the success of the celebrated Banksy

Breakdancing Jesus

His recent work is a Breakdancing Jesus as a motif in Bristol ......

Breakdancing For The Pope

This story was apparently the inspiration for the mural ....... you can see more of his work on the link on his name.

Dictators Follies

One of the stranger aspects of a dictators fall (if the fall is absolute), are what happens to their idiocentricities and follies after the inevitable fall from power of them or their descendants.

Chairman Mao for example banned real pets as symbols of “bourgeois decadence”. Under his rule dogs were killed, hidden, or even smuggled out of the country. Cats were allowed, but only as they killed rats and mice, and therefore were in balance with his "four pests" campaign. The idea of this campaign was to eradicate rats, flies, mosquitoes, and sparrows .... but as with most things under Maoism, it all backfired when the extermination of the sparrows upset the ecological balance, and enabled crop-eating insects to proliferate, which helped contribute to the great famines that killed 70 million Chinese.

Hitler Planned The Volk Halle As A Show Piece

Hitler had his architect Albert Speer plan tremendous buildings (in size not taste), for the Berlin he wanted to be the capital of the '1000 year Reich' - they had only built a few of the buildings towards this vision - but the centre piece of this plan was to be a domed hall so vast, that it would allow clouds to form inside - it would have been visible for miles and miles, and required the flattening of vast swathes of Berlin. The 'Volk Halle' or 'Peoples Hall' would have been a wonder of the world - well in size.

Ceausescu Built This Monolithic Monstrosity

Nicolae Ceausescu in Romania, famously bulldozed hundreds of rural villages at virtually a whim, and then built the 'House of the People' in Bucharest. A building, so vast that famously nobody actually knows how many rooms there are inside. Some suggest there are 2,500, while others put the figure closer to 3,000 - its also rumoured to have tunnels wide enough to run army tanks through them, under the floors. The construction of this building and realisation of a dictators megalomania, involved the demolition of more than one fifth of the centre of Bucharest - a city formerly known as the Paris of the Balkans.

Even after his execution, Ceausescu's Chambers dominates the city and is a massive (in every sense of the term), drain on the country's limited resources and a constant headache to its rulers. After all what do you do with a palace that is the second largest administrative building in the world (after the Pentagon), when you are a small poor country in Europe?

Saddam's 'Hands of Victory'

Saddam Hussein (before the first of the Iraq wars), famously had many buildings built and created, in honour of himself - for example the hands with swords, that crossed the main highway in to Baghdad, were said to be modelled on his own. Of course little still stands of his buildings as the bombings, wars, and general decay since he fell, has destroyed the 'legacy' he hoped to leave the country he had ruled.

The Two Kims

North Korea is a whole state built to sustain the worship and adoration of a communist family dynasty of 'great, glorious' or otherwise entitled 'leaders' - and all buildings reflect this simple fact. Currently the demi-gods latest incarnation in the form of the 3rd generation of Kim iL 'demigod' is ensconced on the throne ..... but nothing lasts forever, and at some point this regime will fall and probably so will all the buildings of aggrandisement that the family have put up to themselves.

Turkmenbashi, chief of the Turkmens

Turkmenbashi, chief of the Turkmens - ruler of Turkmenistan produced a hundred building follies in a personality cult that could stand its own with the best of the worst .....  perhaps the best of these was the towering statue of the great man revolving with the sun on the capital's main square, but he also built palaces and massive waterfalls, in a manner that had no equal outside North Korea or Iraq.

But perhaps the strangest of these dictators folly's was the one featuring not buildings, but people - the North Koreans may have women border guards in high heels, but what about Gaddafi and his 'Amazon' guards?

Gadaffi's 'Amazon Guards'

The body guard group was formed in the early 1980s, shortly after Gaddafi 'officially' resigned as Libyan head of state in favour of some grandiose 'great leader' style title. It was probably about the time that he started sporting opera style uniforms with cardboard shoulder pads - for the record he was now called "Brotherly Leader and Guide of the First of September Great Revolution of the Great Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya". Apparently Gaddafi claimed that having a cadre of faithful women body guards was a good idea, because he believed that  'an Arab gunman would have difficulty firing at women'.

Now given that Gaddafi and his own followers employed the tactics of the rape and murder of women as a part of the regimes civilian controls, its hard to believe that he seriously thought this, so a better explanation is that, along with his face lifts and bad hair dye jobs, he, like a lot of Arab males, seriously believed that young women were:

(a) fascinated by older Arab men, and
(b) that women could be used for sex as they wanted.

Certainly after his demise, many of the women who had been in the unit, claimed to have been regularly raped by him, his sons, and other high up cronies. Oddly part of the training was a requirement to take an 'oath of chastity'. In a deeply conservative Muslim country like Libya, where girls are not allowed sex outside marriage, its a strange thing to make them swear on oath on .. it gave them a nickname of "The Revolutionary Nuns", but was probably only to act as cover for the abuse being performed by Gaddafi and his sons. .

So what happened to this group of 'toy soldiers?'

Well sadly for them, such was the hatred of the regime, that many of the girls have since been hunted down and killed. Most have been tortured, beaten or raped to death, their bodies have turned up all over the country. I know that some of them did terrible things to people, but I can't help suspecting that most of this was under duress themselves, with some of these Amazonian Guards also claiming that they were forced to execute rebels, or be killed themselves.

They were probably as much victims as anyone else in that country, but as a little footnote in history, they illustrate the folly of tying your fortunes to that of a dictator.

Voting In A Theocracy

The Theocracy that is Iran holds elections, and ostensibly they are ‘free and fair’ with one man or woman, one vote. However, look under the surface and the ‘democratic’ face begins too slip. Ever since the days of Ayatollah Khomeni, any contest (if there was any at all), has been between the leading Ayatollah’s candidates, and those who may veer ever so slightly away from his wishes.

So for example this weeks poll in Iran pits the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s loyalists against what are sometime called ‘moderate’ reformers. Moderates in this instance being relative only against the religious/social hard-line stances of the ‘Loyalists’. They would not be classed as ‘moderates’ in the Western concepts of the word (or outside of BBC Newspeak).

The Surviving Candidates

While all six surviving candidates - a lot of the ‘seculars’ or supporters of the outgoing President (the woman consoling Mahmoud Ahmadinejad), and ex-President Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani were disqualified by the ruling Guardian Council - are seen as conservatives, one of them, cleric Hassan Rouhani, has been reaching out to the reformists in recent days.

His reforming agenda is:
  • The need to re-engage with the West,
  • He has also promised to free political prisoners and
  • Called for greater reform of the media (although that can be read many ways).

The sudden interest in him is because Mohammad Reza Aref, the only real reformist candidate in the race, suddenly announced that he was withdrawing his candidature – he said it was on the advice of pro-reform ex-President Mohammad Khatami who was backing Hassan Rouhani.

Not too strangely, many of those who bravely tried to protest the nature of reforms in 2009 (and who were badly beaten by the police and religious supporters), have shown a reluctance to brave the streets again …. Especially after the disqualification of Mr Rafsanjani in May, which meant many supporters of the ‘liberal’ movement are divided about whether to bother voting in the election at all.

So in all likelihood a hard-liner will win (even the reformer is hardline), but in any case the un-elected Grand Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and his Guardian Council will continue to rule Iran, regardless of the nature of any regime elected ‘by the people’ … one man one vote, and that man is Grand Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

A Dutch Cap, to Cap UK Benefits

If ever there was another example needed, of the total systemic abuse the UK's welfare benefit system suffers from, and why it needs a far greater overhaul than this governments mild measures, its this:

Amanda Webber a mother of eight ... yes eight, has been convicted of 23 of 24 counts of benefit and other fraud abuses (including benefit fraud, obtaining a money transfer by deception, and obtaining property by deception), totalling £350,000 over an eight-year period from 2002. She managed this feat by the simple ruse of claiming that five of her children, had disabilities and medical conditions that qualified them for Disability Living Allowance (DLA).

Award of this benefit to her children, triggered other fringe benefits from councils, charities, such as carer's allowance, tax credits and housing and council tax benefit etc, so the true amount of the fraud may never be calculated, but could be much higher in monetary terms. But suffice to say that her lifestyle had given a her a council paid for, seven-bedroom property in Sussex (that’s a million pound property for me an you).
Welfare Benefit Fraud Is Rife
Despite all the fraud campaigns, she was only caught because she was so sure of herself that her 'disabled' children were allowed to audition for ITV's 'Britain's Got Talent' show. She even sent some to fee-paying schools, and they performed in professional TV and stage productions including 'Les Miserables', 'The Wizard of Oz' and 'Billy Elliot' ....

Her excuse for this lifestyle funded by the tax payers? ... well apparently she considered that sending some of her children to stage schools helped their 'self-esteem' (bless!) and that she felt the claims she made were genuine to help bring up her "extraordinarily difficult and demanding children with their myriad problems" ... which obviously didn't actually include any medical problems that qualified for state benefits.

The judge said she faced prison ............ but as that actually costs the taxpayers more to look after her multiple birth products, it seems a false lesson. Better if the benefit system never allowed for such flagrant abuse in the first place.

Benefit Fraud - Just Stamp It Out

One way may be to cap benefits to women to the number of children born outside benefit dependency, and thus close the baby factories used to get ever higher benefits.

King Kong - The Musical

The art of Animatronics (which is the use of mechatronics to create machines which seem animate rather than robotic) has really grown recently, especially with the interest of Dinosaurs. A few years ago I saw giants walking through Manchester and was amazed.

So no apologies for posting on the fact that there is going to be a 'King Kong' the musical in Melbourne Australia this year at the Regent Theatre for which exciting photos have been released.

King Kong The Musical

I have no idea if the musical is going to be any good, but bloody hell what a stage set they are creating.

King Kong Stage Sets

It's time like this that I really regret not living in a big urban area, because this will never be put on near me.

King Kong Animatronics and Puppetry

And while you can see the puppeteers on the lighted stage, once its lit properly, it will be awesome ... six metres tall, weighs more than a tonne he's one hell of a guy.

King Kong Up Close and Personal

Bear Mountain Man

If you go down to the woods today, your sure of a big surprise ...... well at least if your a shepherd in Bosnia Herzegovina.

According to news reports, Blažo Grković, a 48 yr old shepherd from the mountainous region near Foča in the Foča Region of the Republika Srpska, was looking after his flock when  they were attacked by a Brown Bear. The shepherd leapt into action and defended himself and his flock, but he was unarmed ..... now considering that I have already posted before about how dangerous bears can be - especially for armed terrorists, one would have expected this to end only one way.

Brown Bears Are Big Animals

But unarmed as he was, he gave the angry bear a 'Bear Hug' and managed to strangle it with his bare hands, even though it was raking him with its claws and trying to bite him. Afterwards he told police and reporters "I grabbed it round the throat and squeezed and squeezed until it collapsed". He was later treated for deep cuts and bruises, but was otherwise unhurt.

They breed them tough in the mountains .....

Justice Delayed Is Justice Denied

Take two regimes .... Hitler's 'Nazi Germany' and Pol Pots 'Khmer Rouge Cambodia':

In 1945, (between 20 November 1945 and 1 October 1946), the main leaders of the Nazi German regime were all tried in court, and where sentenced, executed or imprisoned. Over the following decades, the hunt for those who had fled justice continued, and even now 65 yrs later, there are prosecutions of men in their 80's. Hundreds of SS men have been convicted over the decades, and even though there have been complaints from victims relatives about the slow responses of governments, there has generally been some effort made to act when a fugitive from justice is uncovered.

The Nuremberg Trials - Provided  Some Justice

Contrast this with Cambodia, where 34 yrs after the fall of one of the most genocidal regimes in history (1975-1979) the 'trials' of the leaders of the Khmer Rouge are ongoing. The pace of the trials is so slow, that the pitifully few of the leadership who have even faced an investigation (and even fewer who have faced trials), are more likely to die of old age before any conviction, than anything else.

As you might have guessed the main reason for this amazing contrast in prosecution rates and purpose is that in Germany it was the victorious allies who performed the trials, whereas the tribunal in Phnom Penh is being backed by the UN (and its legion of expenses paid, first class accommodation 'human rights' lawyers). This means that the criminals 'rights', and not the need for justice are the primary driver of the events.

In fact so bad is the situation, that despite the fact that up to two million people are believed to have died during the four years of Khmer Rouge rule, only one senior-level Khmer Rouge figure has been convicted of crimes committed during that era. Yes just one .... (Pol Pot, died in the late 1990's). The only top official convicted in connection with crimes committed under the Khmer Rouge regime is chief jailer Kaing Guek Eav, known as Duch, who was in charge of one of the hundreds of torture camps in the country.

Pol Pot Leading His Cadres To Victory

But of the thousands of brutal death camp guards, torturers and soldiers of the infamous 'Killing Fields', none, not one, has ever been prosecuted. Even of the few Khmer leadership who have been captured and tried, only a very few such as leader Nuon Chea and fellow current defendant Khieu Samphan (the regime's former head of state), have issued any sort of apology to relatives for the atrocities.

The Silent Victims Of Genocide

Now you have to ask what possible reason there can be to let the killers of 2 million people in four brutal years, walk freely amongst the survivors of their brutality?

The Killing Fields Of The Khmer Rouge

There is no easy answer except a combination of western interference - The UN backed trials are very slow, easily bogged down in points of law, and like the trials of Balkan war criminals in the Netherlands, very expensive, - and Racial Bigotry; there seems to be an acceptance in some quarters, that because this was all in an 'Asian' country, in fact a crime in a 'far away country, between people of whom we know nothing', that its somehow acceptable to have the perpetrators just walk away from their terrible crimes.

This is in marked contrast to the hunt for Nazi's which continues to this day ..... but then they killed white Europeans, didn't they?

Deconstructing BBC Stories

Somali mosque in 'UK racist attack'

Is the link headline on the BBC web page.  So, plain enough, there has been a racist attack on a mosque.

What Does This Link Tell You About The Story?

Wrong, there hasn't been an attack on a mosque. There was no attack on a mosque, in fact the story turns out to be the burning down of an Islamic 'cultural centre' (whatever that means by the way)  - the report states that the 'centre' was not used for prayers, but as a community centre which was mainly used by children after school.

So that headline is flame fanning, and wrong, it isn't a mosque at all as the story later makes clear, but the BBC can't stop their PC nonsense, and report the story under the more inflammatory headline.

You have to ask if there is an agenda, as the main story isn't any better.

Al-Rahma Islamic Centre destroyed in 'hate crime' fire

Where's the Mosque Gone? What Evidence of Hate Crime?

..... is the main story headline - but reading on, its a fire that's actually "an apparent hate crime attack."

So not a proven hate crime at all?

In fact the police say only that its being "is being treated as suspicious". In fact the only reason is that Chief Superintendent Adrian Usher said there was 'EDL graffiti' found on the outside of the building. A fact which may simply be coincidental to the fire - many people were offended by the Islamic reaction to the attack on the soldier and in that case a bit of graffiti is a pretty mild reaction.

The police go on to add that "the Counter Terrorism Command Unit was investigating the incident because of their expertise, rather than it being terrorism related." ... in other words its not been proved to be a terrorist attack.

But that inconvenient fact does that stop the local MP (The Conservative MP for Chipping Barnet) spouting on - nope. Driven on by her fear of a Muslim 'problem', she witters on "This kind of hate crime is absolutely despicable. This is not just an attack on the Muslim community it is an attack on all of us and our values. We are a highly diverse multi-ethnic borough with excellent community cohesion in Barnet. We should under no circumstances allow violent extremists to divide us with this kind of outrage."

This even though there is no evidence of any outrage being committed so far .... but now the BBC reporter has been unleashed, and is looking for quotes about this so far unproven 'outrage'

He or she interviews 'Abu Bakar Ali' (official status unknown), from the centre, who said: "The Somali community is in fear. We are all shocked about what has happened and we strongly condemn the attack on the centre. As you can see, the situation is a very serious one indeed. We are appalled and deeply saddened by the horrific and foolish act against a peaceful community. While no-one was thankfully physically hurt in the attack, the effects of this crime will be felt very deeply."

No mention of the decapitated soldier any more ... suddenly Muslims are the 'victims' so now we get the full PC nonsense about Muslims being under attack ... Zakariya Mohamed, 22, whose only qualification for a quote is that he has been attending the centre for 13 years, said: "I'm heartbroken. I can only speak for myself but I feel this is an act of terrorism. The dictionary defines a terrorist as anybody that causes terror or intimidation with a racial agenda. I think our community will recover though. We don't want to seem like we are defeated. I dream of being able to rebuild the centre even bigger and stronger."

Laughable - the main instigators of world terrorism are quoting a dictionary to the rest of us, but skewed to "a terrorist as anybody that causes terror or intimidation with a racial agenda." .... not a religious one or political one, just "with a racial agenda." ..

OK, so what does the Oxford dictionaries define it as:

[mass noun]: the unofficial or unauthorized use of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims:

The free dictionary says that two other definitions are:

Collins:
  1. (Government, Politics & Diplomacy) systematic use of violence and intimidation to achieve some goal.
  2. the act of terrorizing.
  3. the state of being terrorized.

Kearney:
  1. the use of violence and threats to intimidate or coerce, esp. for political purposes.
  2. the state of fear so produced.
  3. government or resistance to government by means of terror.

Nothing much about "with a racial agenda" ....

Anyway, what else does this exemplar of 'new' BBC reporting state?

And finally, it wouldn't be a BBC Muslim stony without one of the unelected 'Muslim groups' having a quote .... this time its the The Islamic Human Rights Commission (IHRC) - an oxymoron if ever there was one - said that Muslims were now living in fear of a "wave of attacks". Massoud Shadjareh, chair of IHRC, said:

"Muslims feel scared right now and it is completely understandable. Muslims have been physically attacked, mosques burnt down, cemeteries vandalised and social media is full of anti-Muslim hatred and violent threats towards Muslims. More needs to be done to protect the Muslim community."

This 'factual' statement is not backed up by any corroboration - what mosques? what cemeteries ? - which social media? in other words this is just propaganda disguised as comment.

In other words, the whole story has been whipped up by the BBC and media, there is little if any evidence to back it up so far, and the report is littered in unsubstantiated content, which is unchallenged, and in fact is little more than propaganda justification for Muslim attitudes and  serves only to inflame the story and current febrile atmosphere.

This ladies and gentlemen is what now passes for a news story at the BBC.
