Evil Bunnies

Consider the Easter Bunny costume ....

The Easter Bunny As We Normally Imagine Him

Now take a good look at these suited creatures .....

Evil Easter Bunny Costumes?

What they are, believe it or not, is a collection of "Easter Bunnies" from around the world, that kiddies are meant to sit on the knee of, and get photographed. Each of them originally had a very disturbed looking child on their knee, or next to them .... I removed the children from the pictures, to stop the NSPC from raising charges!!

Now consider the term "Leporiphobia" .... a fear of the Easter Bunny. A term I suggest that would never have come into being, if not for the evil minded costume makers who came up with this rogues gallery.

The Tooth Scary

A lot of people have a phobia about dentists ..... its sometimes called odontophobia, or dentophobia by the way. In fact such is the common extent of this fear, that many horror movies have featured mad dentists, culminating in the horror movie The Dentist. But its even featured as a 'torture scene' in many mainstream movies such as Hitchcocks 1934 movie, 'The Man Who Knew Too Much', and later of course the 'Marathon Man' in 1976.

"So You Don't Like British Dentistry Eh Mr Hoffman?"

So its with a little uneasiness that I can let you know that dental horrors are not restricted to movies .....

For instance, according to the Long Island Press, a man was arrested for practising dentistry out of his Long Island, N.Y., home without any formal medical or dental training. The man, Manuel Carranza, was arrested by police after they received a tip about the alleged unlicensed dental practice.

The home 'dental office' reportedly contained a lot of 'dental equipment' as well as a number of prescription medications and two stun guns ...... 'stun guns', the mind boggles! Apparently Mr Carranza also possessed a forged New York State identification card. Police charged him with unauthorized practice of dentistry, possession of a forged instrument, possession of a dangerous weapon and criminal diversion of a prescription.

Then of course, there was this report of a 'fake dentist' in Nampa, Idaho, USA, who was arrested for using power tools on his patients in his garage ..... if this doesn't leave you awake at nights, then nothing will.

Of course the question this raises is where the 'customer's are coming from? Well sadly its rather a condemnation of the richest nation on earth's refusal to embrace some sort of national health system, even though it would be cheaper than the current US selective system. Ironically of course the US comedians regularly knock the UK dental care e.g. 'My Wife and Kids', "This yellow, is as yellow as an Englishman's teeth", or 'The Simpson's', "British Book Of Smiles".

The Simpson's "British Book Of Smiles" - Typical US Disdain For UK Dental Care
..... but I have still got all my (white) teeth - bar two, which were taken out for health reasons - and so have most people I know.

The US system on the other hand leaves a lot of very desperate people who are outside of the 'dental plan system', and often in great pain and in need of some sort of relief ... while giving tooth bleaching for those lucky enough to be on a dental plan. So gleaming straight white teeth for some, and rotting gums for others ....

The fact that many are willing to face untrained dentists armed with stun guns and power drills to get any sort of dental care, is the biggest condemnation of the US health system that anyone can ever be give.

Zombie Politician

All 'big beast' politicians try to come back from the dead at some time ..... its just inherent with the territory. So its perhaps no surprise that perhaps the most vilified British Prime Minister in modern UK history, Gordon Brown, has made his bid to have weight again.

His arena, the forthcoming Scottish Independence vote ... an area that he has previous on, as he was a signatory of the "Scottish Claim of Right", in 1988 .. he then led the pro 'devolution' clan in New Labour - one assumes they thought it a wheeze to keep Labour in permanent power in Scotland, but which has in fact resulted in the SNP rise.

Just for those of you weren't aware of what this declaration contained .... here's a flavour

"We, gathered as the Scottish Constitutional Convention, do hereby acknowledge the sovereign right of the Scottish people to determine the form of Government best suited to their needs, and do hereby declare and pledge that in all our actions and deliberations their interests shall be paramount.”
"We further declare and pledge that our actions and deliberations shall be directed to the following ends:
  • To agree a scheme for an Assembly or Parliament for Scotland;
  • To mobilise Scottish opinion and ensure the approval of the Scottish people for that scheme; and
  • To assert the right of the Scottish people to secure the implementation of that scheme."

It looks like he then spent his entire career ensuring that this came true .... because nothing else explains why he effectively wrecked the UK economy, and oversaw the SNP gaining power in Scotland. If the Scots do leave the Union, then he will have been one of the architects of the break up of the British state.

Zombie Politician

In my opinion he can't be trusted on this anymore than any other issue ... and even the current craze for zombies doesn't make anyone want this politician to come back from the dead ....

College Cheats

Never mind college sports, how about college cheats ... the exposure by a whistle blower of the level of corruption that accompanies the academic element of the US college 'sports' scholarships, has resulted in a slow burning scandal, that no amount of college pressure can seemingly suppress. These scholarships are the backbone of what in the US in known as 'college sports' (mainly US Football, Basketball and Baseball, but with Track and Field, Swimming and increasingly 'Soccer'), a multi-billion dollar industry, which for US Football and Basketball in particular, requires vast numbers of poorly educated, mainly black, 'athletes', to swell the ranks.

Its sole raison d'etre is too get sponsorship funds to boost the college incomes, via endorsements, ex alumni sponsorships, advertising etc etc amounting to billions of dollars each year. The 'athletes' are generally not qualified for college attendance by any measure of academic ability, indeed many are functionally illiterate, but are given course 'grades', that hard working non-athletes may struggle to achieve. The fact that the lecturers are told or pressured to give out these grades, is no excuse for what goes on, but maybe makes it understandable. However the fact remains that in order to essentially try and fix sports results, non-academically qualified 'ghetto boys' are offered scholarships and guaranteed 'degrees' in return for 'unpaid' professional sports performances as 'jocks'.

This not only is a disservice to those boys, as the degrees are unearned in any academic terms, but also devalues US degrees worldwide as the recipients can't hold down any job the degree may entitle them to apply for. Only the select few who make it into the Professional US Sports system actually benefit, because of the untold riches they can earn, make the degree little more than a window dressing.

Such is the disquiet at the large drop-out rate during the college sports years, that many black athletes want to end the scholar-athlete farce, and be paid for being full time pro sports performers, and to this end are trying to 'unionise' their status. Oddly of course this would end the sham, but also end the sports scholarships as well ... what need for poorly educated, mainly black, 'scholars' when they are not athletes?

College Sports Are Big Business In The US

Of course if the UK football academy system operated in the US, then there would be no need for the college system, and the poorly educated, mainly black, 'athletes' would be in the professional academy systems, where academic ability is no particular account. They would still suffer from the high drop-out rates (which are also around 90%), but there would be no pretence that they were academically 'qualified' in anyway.

But the end results of this is that the poorly educated, mainly black, 'athletes', given these 'Scholarships' become 10%, poorly educated mainly black professional 'athletes', with a college degree, while the rest, lost through injuries, inability or generally not making the cut, end up as poorly educated mainly black ex-college boys, who aren't actually qualified, having been given the degrees for no academic achievement whatsoever.

'College sports' are thankfully a particular import we have not made from the US ... however when we watch the 'Boat Race', a lot of specialist rowers feature as 'scholars' .... hmm.

Strippers For Good

We have already had strippers for god on this blog before, so perhaps we shouldn't be surprised by strippers for good .... Apparently Striptease performers in the Russian city of Rostov are 'donating their day's wages' (whether voluntarily is anyone's guess as its the owner who makes the press statements), to the restoration of a children's holiday resort in Artek, which is located on the Crimea's subtropical south coast.

Seemingly it was an old Soviet-era workers institution, which used to be a dream resort for the USSR's children. Sergey Semkin, the owner of a striptease club called 'Province', says he was shocked to see a TV report of how run-down the camp had become ... "I wanted to go there on holiday when I was little, but alas, this was not meant to be" - so he decided he would contribute .... well his strippers would.

He did however confirm that it is only the strippers 'wages' that will be donated - not the tips which make up most of their earnings, and this follows waves of 'voluntary' and 'patriotic' salary donations, from workers across Russia (including a days salary from councillors, officials, teachers, library workers and doctors in the Rostov region), following the return of the Crimea to the bosom of Mother Russia.

Strippers Heels - Deadly Weapons.

Funny how 'patriotic' the hearts of even the most mercenary of bosoms can be following a territorial land grab ...... but things might not have gone as well if the strip joint had been in the small Wisconsin town of Juneau.

There, in January 2013, at the gentleman's club known as 'Silk Exotic', two of the entertainers were arrested after violence broke out. The cause of the trouble was a single dollar. Apparently a Gentleman admirer handed one dancer a $1 note, as a perfunctory tip .... another of the dancers, who believed that her own performance was more worthy, made a grab for the note, and fisticuffs broke out.

Needless to say, both women ended up with a $250 citations for disorderly conduct from the Dodge County police. The sheriff, Todd Nehls told the local newspaper, the Beaver Dam Daily Citizen (yep, really!!). "I was surprised. We seldom receive calls for service from this business. This is a rare exception." Still if it might have been tough getting money from these two ladies for a child's holiday camp, imagine what it would be like in Texas, where stripper wars are common place.

'New Black Panther Party' activist Quanell X, defended an exotic dancer who beat up a fellow performer at the 'Millionaire Boyz Club' in Northwest Houston. Apparently the incident was filmed via mobile phones and uploaded onto the Internet, where it proceeded to go viral .... a few months later in an Austin Texas strip club named 'Hot Bodies', there was what was described by witnesses, as a '17-women' cat fight, that resulted in one male spectator losing his left eye, after he was hit with a high-heeled shoe, according to the local TV channel 'KXAN Ch. 36'.

Now as I believe that the Russian Strippers are at least a match for the US versions, I have to assume that the Russian ladies weren't asked about the wage donation, or all hell may have broken loose, and it may be that something round, but not an eye, that got stamped by a stiletto heel.

Armless Joke

David holding his gun .... but not the the one Michaelangelo may have envisioned so Italy is up in arms over his baring arms ... Yes this advert by Armalite, of Michaelangelo's 'David' holding an AR-50A1 assault rifle has upset the Italian Government.

Work Of Art, or Cheeky Joke?

Italy's culture minister has said that the advert was not only offensive but violated the Italian law as it has copyright on the commercial use of images of David. Luckily this is a non commercial site then ....

Actually what I found funny about this is that this is the same Italian government who are overseeing the collapse of the ruins of Pompeii ... where both the the United Nations and the European Union had demanded urgent action as walls collapse because despite funds from bodies around the world, the Italian government have misspent or 'lost' the funds ... aka corruption.

I can say this because last year, the €105m ($145m) "Great Pompeii" rehabilitation project was launched, with the EU contributing €41.8m. However, one Italian newspaper said that only €588,000 had been spent, and now the Italian Prime Minister is appealing for the 'Private Sector' to start repairing the heritage sites .... so this begs the question as to where the balance, of the fund amounting to €105.4m has gone?

I would suggest that the Italian culture minister look to where all the money goes in his department before worrying about adverts in the US.

Gay Pride?

The demands of the 'gay pressure' groups has long since left the bedroom behind .... when homosexuality was made legal, or perhaps more truthfully, decriminalised by the passing of the Sexual Offences Act in 1967, many hoped that homosexuals would be happy with having the equality of what went on in their bedrooms, being treated the same as for everyone else. But that has not proved the case, and their ever shriller demands for 'equality' have grown louder over the subsequent decades.

They have considered themselves both a 'persecuted minority' one one hand, and a 'significant percentage' of the male population on the other, and have projected both images in about equal measure for the last 30 yrs ..... on the first, they are wrong about being persecuted, on the latter they are wrong about being a significant percentage of the male population. The only true test on the numbers of homosexual men was carried out by the NHS in the UK (Over concerns over blood donor supplies), and this showed that the numbers of homosexual (or bisexual men) at around 3-4% of the UK population.

Despite this, they have pressed for ever more recognition in spheres far outwith their one area of alleged difference i.e. sexual behaviour, and have been given further 'rights' .... but they were not content with the civil authorities recognition of their relationships in law, via 'Civil Partnerships', but further insisted, and were granted, that they be recognised as 'married', in some weird parody of the religious recognition that so many of the activists seem to want. To the first of those aspirations they have now got civil marriages, and as to the latter wish they are well on their way to subverting the Church of England, and even the last Pope complained of a 'Gay Lobby' inside the highest echelons of the Catholic Church.

So where will this all end? Well the pressured 'sacking', or 'enforced resignation', or ... well call it what you will, removal of Mr Brendan Eich, the chief executive and co-founder of Mozilla, is a new low, but probably the benchmark for the next round of 'gay fascism', whereby everyone who has ever opposed the 'gay rights' movement, even only as a private individual 'gets there comeuppance'. No doubt there will be various trials by social media juries, whereby the accused will be found guilty of 'thought crimes', and hounded out of their jobs ..... McCarthyism applied by civil actors.

It's actually ironic that a self-proclaimed 'minority', who believe that they have long been 'persecuted' for holding unpopular views, can now turn around and persecute others for the exact same reason ... and apparently feel no shame for their hypocrisy. Its raised a lot of counter anger in the US, although not in the UK that I have seen. Posters referring to the 'Gaystapo' are now on many right-wing US sites

By the way, for the benefit of those who don't follow US, or gay politics, Mr Eich's 'crime' was that he voiced a personal opinion, through a donation to a legally placed ballot initiative in California, and whose various political pronouncements he did not fashion .... this opinion was one that the 'gay' community didn't agree with, and in particular a fascist element within that community, who insist that all people's opinions conform to their view, and mercilessly bully and intimidate those whose don't.

The Campaign Against Mr Eich Was Short, But Savage.

In any free society, Mr. Eich would be perfectly entitled to his own opinions, and should be free to express them as long as they don't incite violence, but as we are increasingly aware we are no longer in a free society. There are groups about whom we are no longer allowed to say anything negative, and in expressing contrary views (even discreetly) we risk being vilified by a mob.

In effect we have now reached the point where we have ask, 'Is it now ok to discriminate against someone at work for their personal views?' ..... well after seeing Brendan Eich 'resign' after less than a month on the job, because of the pressure of orchestrated boycott campaigns, we have to answer that it apparently is.

Those full-time gay-rights professionals in the US and UK, will apparently not rest until a homogeneous and stultifying monoculture is settled upon the lands, and in that aim they are joined by the legions in the PC and race Multiculturalism industry's in the same countries .... and if that means unleashing ignorant social media lynch mobs, to pronounce anathema upon any individuals such as a California technology executive, for their private views, acted on in their private lives, then so be it.

Its interesting to note that consensual homosexual acts between adults are still illegal in about 70 out of the 195 countries of the world (approximately 36% of the worlds countries); And with homosexuals being jailed again in Egypt, you would think that the lesbian and gay lobbies would concentrate on those issues (possibly with the Women's Lib activists who face the same foe in many parts of the world, and with much the same inaction), and not on suppressing free speech or thought in countries where they have more than met their demands.

We have ended up walking down a very thorny path, one which probably wasn't envisaged when the decision to decriminalise homosexuality was passed by politicians in the UK (and was followed by similar acts in other western countries) ....

When 'minority rights' overrule majority wishes, you have damaged your democracy, and are on the hard road to totalitarianism.

Faded Memories In Our Lifetime

A rare tale of the heroism of many, from a time we have all dismissed .... its a rather traumatic account of one man and his families struggle against the evil that was state socialism in Eastern Europe. I would urge anyone to read it and watch the BBC iPlayer TV version while they are still up, because its easy to forget what the world was really like for millions of people, whose children live amongst us today .

We have quickly dismissed memories of the evils of Communism from our collective minds, and even though recent events in the Crimea have evoked ghost like memories of what it was like, most of us have forgotten the evil done under the communist and state socialist banner. The torture, the Gulags and perhaps most insidious of all, the constant surveillance, with its promise of arrest or blackmail for any infringement of thought or word.

The Chains Of The Past - Still Weigh Heavy

Mr Bugan wasn't trying to instil a creed worse than that in place, which has often been the case in the Arab spring, where bad secular regimes are often being replaced by even worse Islamic ones, but rather to simply have free elections, and to live a life without fear of arbitrary arrest or imprisonment ....

I have blogged before about how tolerant we in the West have been about the politics of the extreme far left, with a large numbers of left wing 'socialist' parties (which often had their roots in the post World War II political settlement), while vilifying any who espouses 'right wing views (which includes many US Republicans, outside of the USA).

Its interesting to note that the brave, but rather mild Mr Bugan, would undoubtedly be considered a 'class enemy' by many of the left wing political parties which are allowed to agitate for 'socialism' in the UK ... its a funny world.

Times Up

Now I guess you can either take it as proof, that either your god loves you and wants you so much that he's taking you to heaven at the first possible chance, or that your god doesn't love you, and is punishing you, but either way, when you get swept out to sea during a baptism, something has gone horribly wrong.

The unlucky individual in this case was Benito Flores, who in March 2014 was helping his cousin, the pastor of the 'Jesus Christ Light of the Sky church', baptise a man near the Guadalupe Dunes Preserve north of Santa Barbara .... when a huge wave swept three of the party, including Mr Flores, out to sea. The other two swam back, but sadly not Mr Flores, who is presumed to be very likely drowned. It was deemed very unlikely that anyone could survive more than 30 minutes in the cold waters at this time of year.

So it seems that Mr Flores has gone to meet his maker, whether that's a good or bad thing, even if you don't believe in a maker, is for you to decide, but its still definitely an incredibly unlucky and ironic way to die. Of course there are many other strange ways to go, like the two women, who fell to their deaths as a bouncy inflatable castle careered across a park, before smashing into a CCTV post. There are probably millions of other strange ways to shuttle off this mortal coil ....

Strange Deaths Are Quite Common

In the current century alone, these are but a fraction of the strange deaths that have occurred:

  • 2006: An unidentified airline mechanic was sucked into the engine of a Boeing 737-500 at El Paso International Airport while performing routine maintenance on the tarmac.
  • 2007: Jennifer Strange, a 28-year-old woman from Sacramento, California, died of water intoxication while trying to win a Nintendo Wii console in a KDND 107.9 "The End" radio station's "Hold Your Wee for a Wii" contest, which involved drinking increasingly large quantities of water without urinating.
  • 2007: Humberto Hernandez, a 24-year-old Oakland, California resident, was killed after being struck in the face by an airborne fire hydrant while walking. A passing car had struck the fire hydrant and the water pressure shot the hydrant at Hernandez with enough force to kill him.
  • 2008: David Phyall, 50, the last resident in a block of flats due to be demolished in Bishopstoke, near Southampton, Hampshire, England, decapitated himself with a chainsaw to highlight the injustice of being forced to move out.
  • 2009: Taylor Mitchell, a Canadian folk singer, was attacked and killed by three coyotes, the only recorded adult person to have been killed by this species.
  • 2010: Mike Edwards, British founding member and cellist for the band ELO, died when a large round bale of hay rolled down the hill and smashed his car while he was out driving.
  • 2011: Jose Luis Ochoa, 35, died after being stabbed in the leg at an illegal cockfight in Tulare County, California U.S., by one of the birds that had a knife attached to its limb.
  • 2012: Erica Marshall, a 28-year-old British veterinarian in Ocala, Florida, died when the horse she was treating in a hyperbaric chamber kicked the wall, released a spark from its horseshoes and triggered an explosion.
  • 2012: Edward Archbold, 32, a man of West Palm Beach, Florida, died after winning a cockroach eating contest. The cause of death was determined to be accidental choking due to "arthropod body parts."
  • 2013: An unnamed Belarusian fisherman, 60, was killed by a beaver while attempting to take a picture with the animal. The beaver bit the man, severing a large artery in his leg.

Then there were those who thought they were amongst the blessed of whatever religion they followed:

  • Take the Catholic missionary in Nicaragua, Brother Pepe, who had survived being kidnapped by terrorists, and even being blown up by a landmine, but suddenly his time came. He sprayed insecticide on a beehive .... Oops .... he was totally unaware that it was full of African killer bees who promptly stung him to death in March 2014.

And finally, those who brought it on themselves .....

  • Zheng Guoqiang, a Chinese Feng Shui master was taking a client around a cemetery where they were seeking some 'good land' for the clients husbands funeral plot. He had just pointed out a spot, which he had declared as 'perfect for the burial' and how the vibrations were perfect ... never a truer word spoken. Minutes later there as a tremendous mudslide and the Feng Shui master was buried alive, along with seven others. All were killed .... in a postscript, his friend Mr Lee Chengze, another meta-physician, said he was 'puzzled' as to why his friend had gone to that cemetery on that particular Sunday as it 'was a bad day' to go there. Meta-physician heal thyself.

All of which just goes to show that when its your time to go, its your time, and nothings going to stop it happening.....

Forbidden Facts

In an another of those 'big snake eats big croc' stories, this time the snake didn't burst open, as the last media example of this event illustrated.

Snake v Crocodile

The pictures speak for themselves this time and have gone viral, as everyone likes these sorts of Lion v Tiger stories .. in fact the Internet is full of video sites purporting to show what happens when a Gorilla takes on a Buffalo, or some such equally unlikely scenario. Most show nothing of the kind, and just weigh up the 'opposition' and say 'its not going to happen but cor blimey, what if it did!'

In fact I can recall that long ago, before YouTube and the Internet, there were such 'facts' available in the Guinness Book of Records .... the one I recall looking up when I was a kid was the traditional 'Lion v Tiger' battle royal. Then one year those 'facts' were all removed from the book, and I lost a lot of interest in the Guinness Book of Records ... such is the fickleness of youth.

Just for the record, and wholly from memory (as it was in the early 1960's that I read the 'fact'), it appears that in fact, against all the odds, the only, well at that time, example recorded in the Guinness Book of Records of a male lion and tiger fighting, came from a Hollywood film producer in the 1930's. The lion apparently took one look, and leapt of the Tiger breaking its neck, or so the report read. Seemingly he had hoped to film this 'epic battle' and use the stock footage in a jungle film .... in fact there was at least one such lion tiger fight, staged for a jungle film in the Gir Forest in India, where lions still live in India. The Lions win.

There are other examples of these fights going to the Lions, so maybe its not just size that matters .... the male lions manes seem to help.

And even as recently as 2008, in a zoo incident in South Korea ... a land that idolises the tiger as the embodiment of the fighting spirit ..... A lion at Jeonju Zoo, in North Jeolla Province, attacked and killed a tiger in the zoo. The body of the dead tiger was taken to a veterinary hospital in the zoo.

Anecdotally I understand that Tigers should win 9 out of 10 times when evenly matched, but the Korean zoo keeper said that the outcome of fight between a lion and a tiger depends on which gets a head start, and which is more aggressive, adding that neither animal is always superior to the other. How he can be so sure was not explained.

But there are many who argue that tigers win these fights .... again I have no reason to suppose that's anymore trustworthy than my lion win in the 1930's. However the debate rages across the Internet as these links (out of many) illustrate .....I have no idea what made me think of all this, or why it obviously excites such interest on the web, even now when tigers are all but extinct.

Oh well, thank god for CGI these days, that's all I say ....  lions and tigers are both endangered species.

Before I Forget

Many years ago, in what seems like another lifetime, I used to have to visit the elderly in their homes, residential accommodation, or worst of all nursing homes .... these visits, while usually mundane, sometimes brought me into contact with those poor souls who had succumbed to the terrible scourge that is Alzheimer's disease. These visits left me with a lifetime fear of developing a degenerative mental condition in old age .... a fear that has not lessened as I have got older.

So the news that researchers from Georgetown University in Washington DC have suggested recently that a simple blood test can be used to accurately predict Alzheimer's disease, was a little bit of light in a very dark tunnel. Apparently by just testing the levels of 10 fat types in the blood, the results can be used to predict with 90% accuracy, the risk of the onset of the disease within the next three years or even earlier. Its now  going to be tested in larger clinical trials.

The reason why this is important is that being able to test early for the onset of Alzheimer's disease, could allow for early treatment by drugs, which even if not a full cure, may well slow the pace of the development of the disease, and could therefore have a huge impact on the patients and families: One researcher pointed out that  "Even a short delay of symptoms will have a tremendous economic benefit just in terms of the cost of care".

Dementia Is A Worldwide Epidemic

Now speaking as one who is trying to bravely face walking in to the foothills old age, and with little chance of a comfortable retirement, the idea of developing either Senile Dementia or Alzheimer's sends shivers down my spine. What I find most shocking about all this is that funding to cure the disease is very much the poor man of the illnesses, and yet its far more devastating in its impact on both individuals, and the wider society, than almost any other disease.

I for one would certainly sleep a lot better, if a world wide effort was launched to find a preventative or cure the disease asap .... I really believe that a cure is out there, it just needs the will and effort to uncover it .... and who knows, it may save me a trip to the Dignitas clinic in Switzerland.

Italian Justice Sytem On Trial

The arrogance of the British courts over 'Human Rights' is breathtaking ..... they believe that not only can they discount the will of the UK Parliament, but also direct and bend to their will, any Country, or Ally, or member of the EU, for not living up to the standards of 'Human Rights' the British legal system deems as appropriate ....

It appears that the British judiciary and lawyers are the last place in Britain where imperialist ideas over the governance of the lesser races (those peoples who live in less enlightened countries, and who are not benefiting from the rule and leadership of English public school boys), is still practised.

So, following on from the ritualised humiliation handed out to Jordan, our ally in the Middle East, over the extradition of convicted terrorist and radical cleric Abu Qatada - court proceedings went on for years, with our courts and legal fraternity blocking the wishes of Parliament, and most of our population (the usual 5% objected, and would rather keep the terrorist in the UK), from sending a deeply scum-bag man back where he deserved - our lawyers and judges have turned their attentions and arrogance on to Italy.

It now appears, that in order to extradite criminals and fugitives back to Italy, the Italian government will have to embark on a billion Euro prison building programme, to ease overcrowding in their Mafia filled prisons. All because in a couple of landmark judgements by low level courts in the UK, where its been determined that being imprisoned in Italy will breach a criminals 'human rights', as determined by UK standards .... truly stunning. The arrogance of this is unbelievable, and the two recipients of these judgements, a Somali man, Hayle Abdi Badre who is wanted for fraud and financial crimes, and a Mafia man, Domenico Rancadore, who was convicted in 1999 of Mafia association and extortion in Trabia, near Palermo, must be smirking at the stupidity of the legal system in the UK.

Mafia man - Domenico Rancadore  -
aka Marc Skinner - Nothing To Hide

No doubt the UK will now be flooded with anyone wanted for crimes in Italy, from fraudsters, rapists, murderers and the Mafia, all confident that they are can no longer be extradited to |Italy ..... quite amazing in its implications, and yet another illustration of the perversity of the interpretations of Human rights in the UK courts. It is also a decision that flies in the face of the European Arrest Warrant (aka EAW) which we signed up to in January 2004. It is based on the idea that all of the justice systems, in all of the member states in the EU offer due process, a fair trial system, and that these are of equal quality. In other words, you get as fair a trial or detention in prison in Italy as you would get in the UK.

Credit to the Italians, who not only have kept a dignified silence, while UK Human rights lawyers have slagged them off, but have also issued a fresh European Arrest Warrant from Italy. Mr Rancadore was re-arrested and was refused bail. He is now described as "one of the heads of one of the most powerful Mafia organisations in Italy"

Ironically of course the UK legal system is based upon Roman Law ..... but whatever happened to the oldest legal premise of all?

'If you can't do the time, don't do the crime'

..... if you commit a crime in the country, then you should face the consequences of that crime by the legal system in that country.

Evolution On The March

A while ago, in another post I discussed the future of the planet without humanity, during which I included an update along these lines.

Prophetic Words .......

Little did I suspect that evolution could be so quick ..... just  a few weeks later, comes the evidence of evolution on the march!

In Sweden, a family found (and killed) a King Rat of monstrous proportions in their kitchen.

Truly A King Sized Rat

Weighing in at about 2.2lb (a kilo), it measured 40cm (nearly 16in) plus tail .... OK so that's not quite the size of a Sheep or a Capybara .... but its not bad for a first effort, and everything has to start somewhere, even 'Evolution'.

Historical Revisionism

Historical Revisionism is a process that in the Western tradition, is meant to be a scholarly process of updating the current view of historical events .... however there is increasingly apparently a need amongst some scholars, to 'rehabilitate' groups who previously were cast as villains.

The latest such group to get the goody goody makeover is apparently the Vikings! .... a group whom history has not necessarily presented in a good light over the centuries. In fact in the past, they were often cast in the same group as the Hun and the Mongols, as good for nothing barbarians with no redeeming features. Under the auspices of political correctness, 'The Mongols', being Asian, have been subject to revisionism some time ago, and so are now considered as 'stable empire builders', and the race that opened up the silk road between the West and East - Marco Polo and all that, and a Dynasty of China - as well as the Mughals of India, after some converted to Islam.

Vikings In The West Had A Bad Reputation

The Vikings first broke into the Christian worlds conciousness on the 8th June 793 AD.  The raid on the monks of Lindisfarne island was described in the local sermons (the equivalent of the local newspapers) in terms of the apocalypse arriving "Never before has such terror appeared in Britain as we have now suffered from a pagan race .... The heathens poured out the blood of saints around the altar, and trampled on the bodies of saints in the temple of God, like dung in the streets," wrote one chronicler, Alcuin of York. That set the tone of the reports across England, Ireland, and France .... for the next 300 years.

Then came the modern era and their portrayal as marauding barbarians was questioned on the grounds that the monks of the time who wrote the records who as the "victims", were not  objective but that the Norse sagas - written several centuries later by the descendants of the raiders - were more reliable? Suddenly, the Vikings were seen as as a 'domestic, family-oriented people'.

Now, there is something of a second wave of revisionism with some like Prof Simon Keynes, saying that "There's no question how nasty, unpleasant and brutish they were. They did all that the Vikings were reputed to have done". ... and more! With leaders like 'Ivar the Boneless' it doesn't take much in Saxon propaganda to portray the Vikings as from hell ..... even according to the pro-Norse sagas he was described as cruel. He allegedly put Edmund, King of East Anglia, up against a tree, and had his men shoot arrows at him until his head exploded.

He didn't even just restrict his activities to Non-Vikings .... Viking King Ella was put to death in York by having his ribs cut at the spine, his ribs broken so that they looked like wings, and his lungs pulled out through the wounds in his back in what was infamously known as 'The Blood Eagle'. They burnt and despoiled Churches after taking the valuables, they drove off cattle, and took slaves, leaving a trail of terror and destruction in what he describes as 'maritime blitzkrieg'.

Vikings In The East Had A Better Reputation

Oddly in the East, the 'Ruotsi' or Volga 'Rus' as they became known, were recognised more as trader warriors, driven by a love of silver to travel the wastes and waters of the world, trading Slaves and Black Fox furs to the Arab Caliphates, and serving in 'Varangian' regiments for the Byzantine Empire ...

It was the Arab chroniclers, who bore the Vikings no grudge, who gave us the best of the descriptions, as many Imperial Byzantine records were lost after the Turkish conquest, because the 'Rus', while not to be messed with i.e. not to be taken as slaves, or forced to convert, were also largely peaceful and tolerated as traders of precious goods .... "bringing beaver skins, and skins of black foxes, and swords, from the furthest part of the Slav lands down to the Black Sea.".

In fact, they were described as heroic men, who displayed great loyalty to each other - the original band of brothers in fact. With their primary interest in the region being acquisition  'Their only occupation is trading in sable and squirrel and other kinds of skins, which they sell to those who will buy from them," one Arab writer observed. "In payment, they take coins which they keep in their belts."  What often surprised the Arabs was that the Vikings cared little for the face value of the coins, but simply used an Arab system of balancing weights, to measure the silver by weight for worth. The coins were then often hewn into smaller pieces, to be melted down into ingots or fashioned into arm-rings for subsequent "hacksilver" transactions.

The reasons for this difference in behaviour and the descriptions of the Vikings in the two areas of the world are fairly obvious ... in the West, they were raiding tribal groups, who were little different in organisation from themselves. Ireland was made up of clans and small wars under a 'High King' in Tara - The Viking Kingdom of Dublin was established. England, was multiple small Kingdoms, Wessex, Mercia, and Northumbria - half the country fell under the Danelaw. Only the Frankish kingdom in France could resist most Viking raids, but even so the 'Normans' (Northmen) wrested the land of Normandy from the French King  (although only after acknowledging him as overlord - which they then ignored).

While in the East - there were two Major Empires - the East Romans or Byzantines, were the Eastern half of the old Roman Empire, and the most powerful Christian state, and its capital Constantinople (or Miklagard as the Vikings called it - 'Big City), was the largest city on Earth. The Arabs, were the new empire of Islam, which was based upon the old Roman African and Middle Eastern provinces, and the old Persian Empire all of which they had conquered. Both were far too powerful to raid or conquer .... so mostly it was trading that the Vikings undertook ... hence the more peaceful and less apocalyptic descriptions.

So depending upon in the world where you look, the Vikings were either the scourge of the West, or the first 'Globalised Traders' (well, after the ancient Phoencians) ... who once they settled an area (i.e. after the fighting etc), assimilated and intermarried with the locals, only displacing the elite ruling class. Or they were explorers, traders, and mercenary warriors. The truth probably lies in-between all these descriptions, so the historical revisionism being undertaken, is simply looking too much in one direction or another .... like most historical revisionism.

The Huns by the way, have now been left on their own on the 'naughty step' of history, unredeemed by anyone .... up until now. So last word to the Vikings .... from 'The Havamal' or Book of Viking Wisdom

Never walk
away from home
ahead of your axe and sword.
You can't feel a battle
in your bones
or foresee a fight.

Wake early
if you want
another man's life or land.
No lamb
for the lazy wolf.
No battle's won in bed.

Be your friend's
true friend.
Return gift for gift.
Repay laughter
with laughter again
but betrayal with treachery.

The Scum Of Europe

Quote of the year contestant:

"The trouble is these terrorist takfiri [apostates] gangs sent by Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey, and behind them, the West is sending us their terrorists, the scum of Europe. They grow beards, but they have nothing to do with Islam. What kind of Muslim would destroy a mosque and desecrate the grave of a sheikh who taught generations of students?"

He was referring to 'extremists' who believe Muslim society has reverted to a state of non-belief, legitimising attacks on other Muslims.

So who said it, where, and why?

Well the 'why' was that it followed the systematic and deliberate destruction of mosques, and burning of piles of Korans, which as we are all daily reminded by the jihadists in our own countries, is a sin, well for most Muslims, who would consider this to be the ultimate act of desecration, because they consider the Koran the sacred word of God.

Mosque And Koran Destruction By Muslims

The 'where' was in Syria, on the Iraq border where the jihadist terrorists have been wreaking their usual  mix of outrages, murders, rapes and persecution on the local communities. And the who?

It was the Kurdish community, many of whom who follow the 'Naqshabandis' 'Sufi' brand of Islam, which while not the 'Anglicans' of Islam (there's no such thing), are generally slightly more tolerant than many other of the 'schools of Islam', and therefore anathema to the Saudi inspired and trained terrorists.

Still its ironic that Muslims in the Middle East, now fear the arrival of the  Islamic 'scum of Europe', radicalised in the Mosques of the West, on tourist terrorism jaunts, where they slip into war-zones, and feel free to commit acts of mayhem on the enemy ..... who are more often than not, their fellow Muslims, both Sunni Arabs, and the Alawites, and 'Naqshabandis' communities. This apparently is what passes for 'Jihad' amongst the attendees of the Mosques of Mannheim-Jungbusch, Amsterdam, Luton and elsewhere.

A Land Of Only Stones And Men

With the withdrawal of the latest foreign armies from Afghanistan later this year, this time its the US and NATO forces, the focus is of course on what's going to happen there next, with most of the smart money on the Taliban taking over again within a few years, (if the US tires of propping up the regime), and certainly within the decade, regardless of the military aid given (See Soviet experience).

In the meantime, the whole debacle has reopened a long running argument amongst military historians, going back at least as far as the mid 19th century, as to whether Afghanistan can be occupied by any foreign power. Now before I discuss this further, I need to point out that no one seriously suggests that Afghan armies are unbeatable in battle, and in fact their armies have been regularly beaten in battles against foes as diverse as the Persians, the Greeks under 'Alexander The Great', the Mongols, the Arabs, the Mughals and even the British (who usually did well in punitive raids and revenge marches). But where it always goes badly wrong, as the British have found out a few times over the centuries, is when the invaders try to stay.

Invasions Of Afghanistan - All Ended In Retreat

The Afghans may be only able to raid from the hills against superior forces, but in a land that one Emir who was fighting the British described as "a land of only stones and men", a description which is still true today, there is no material gain in invading. What was true then and now, was that there is no money in what is historically a very poor land, one in which 'honour' and 'religion', is all that the men had to fight over. A situation that is nearly as true now, as it was when the Emir spoke those words ..... if wasn't for the West's unending appetite for the heroin derived from Afghanistan's poppy fields.

However, poppy juice not withstanding, the Afghan poverty makes it impossible to get the Afghans to pay for their own occupation, either by way of taxes, or to get them provide reliable soldiers to defend any 'friendly' regime against its own rebels. The occupiers end up haemorrhaging both their own blood and money, to little material or political gain, and it apparently matters little which military, or political tactics, they adopted.

For instance the Soviets tried brute numbers, and fought a no quarter, no rules war that left 1.5 million dead, figures which are even higher if the casualties from the subsequent civil war, which saw the Taliban sweep into power, are added in. However the cost to the soviet economy was only about $2bn (£1.2bn), a year in materials and weapons etc which seems a pittance compared with the US efforts.

The US tried to fight a 'smart war', with a highly trained professional army (as opposed to the Soviets conscript soldiers), and with an estimated 100,000 casualties so far, its certainly a far less bloody conflict than the Soviet version, but this latest Afghan War has also been far more expensive than the Soviet misadventure, with the US have already spent more than $700bn (£418bn) .... but to much the same effect.

There is a lot to be said in being a backward, fanatical, bloody-minded peoples, with an almost casual disregard for the value of human life, because in the end, most occupiers just throw in the towel, as the British did in 1842, as the Soviets did in 1988, and as the US and NATO will do later this year.
