After Deborah Yakubua, a Christian student was torn out of a college
safe room, in the city of Sokoto, Nigeria ....
Deborah Yakubu Murdered |
.... she was then stoned to death, after which her body was burnt by 'righteous' fellow Muslim students.
It was reported that security forces fired tear gas and warning shots but failed to disperse the mob and the cab that had been waiting outside the school, to escort her to safety at the police station was never used as they killed her inside the school, while her fellow Christian students fled the premises during the May 12th 2022 killing.
Her crime was that allegedly she had posted a blasphemous remark on a WhatsApp group about the prophet of Islam. Prof. I. A. Maqari, the Chief Imam of the Nigerian National Mosque made a statement on the killing, but couldn't bring himself to condemn the Islamic mob for the extra judicial killing of a Christian student ... No condolences to the family of the murdered girl. No call for justice to be served.
Muslim Red Line Threat .... |
Rather his statement was in support of the murderers, and inciting further violence against anyone else who crossed the 'Muslims red line'.
He wasn't alone in this view that it was a justified killing .... The Chief Imam of Bayero University Kano, Sheikh Abubakar Jibril, allegedly incited Muslims against the Bishop of Sokoto Catholic Diocese, Matthew Hassan-Kukah, in a video telling his Muslim followers to get the home address of Bishop Kukah, and possibly attack the bishop, if they think he is the person that sent Deborah to the school where she allegedly blasphemed against Islam. While presidential opposition candidate Atiku Abubakar was heavily criticized after taking down his social media posts that had condemned the killing, after receiving a backlash from Muslim supporters
The killers also reportedly shared a video, showing them stoning the poor girl to death and burning her body. Throughout they kept shouting “Allahu Akbar” (“Allah is the greatest”) while filming, according to eyewitnesses.
Two Of Deborah Yakubu's Killers |
Yakubu's last words were reported as "What do you hope to achieve with this?" ... sadly the answer is terror and intimidation. The mobs have form for this sort of killing in Nigeria as in 2007, some Muslim students in Gombe lynched their female Christian teacher for allegedly 'desecrating' the Quran.
State Governor Aminu Tambuwal ordered the indefinite closure of the college immediately after the incident, and opened an investigation ... but just two students, Bilyaminu Aliyu and Aminu Hukunci, who were identified from the video, were actually arrested in connection with the murder. Following their arrests another Muslim mob started a violent street protest and the governor imposed a 24-hour curfew on Sokoto metropolis.
We all know that this could happen anywhere in the world
where there are men with this kind of mentality ... its only fear of the consequences that's stopped
it happening in a non Muslim country so far .... but with the confidence of growing numbers, its only
probably a matter of time. We reap what we sow ...
