In an outrageous affront to justice of any kind, an Arab prince, Sheikh Issa bin Zayed al-Nahyan, has been cleared of torturing and beating a businessman with assistance from his employees, this despite the whole episode being filmed and released onto the Internet.
The Sheikh is the son of former United Arab Emirates President Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan; the half brother of the former President Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan; and the half brother of President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The video news reports are on this link (the copy I linked to was declared 'private' ... but there are many more links) .... these people can't hide anymore but you will probably have to sign in to YouTube to view them. It can be seen from the images above and here, and the video links that quite clearly a uniformed official is helping in the torture that took place in 2005.
The official excuse (if you can follow it), is that the court had ruled that the Prince had been drugged and so was "unaware of his actions"...... you can't make this shit up. The courts presumably actually believe this crap or at least are too frightened not to.
His lawyer, Habib al-Mulla, is quoted by Reuters as saying that the ruling had "clarified Sheikh Issa's position that he was a victim of conspiracy" over the torture and "at the same time, it's proven justice to Mohammed Shahpoor and it showed who were the actual people who were behind whole saga," He said the court had "accepted our defence that the sheikh was under the influence of drugs that left him unaware of his actions," the AFP news agency reported.
Who else in the world believes this garbage? Oh yes, its aimed at those with no thoughts or no voice of their own that make up the population, so they probably believe that they can pass this off as the holy truth, instead of being what it obviously really is .... a prince torturing someone.
The court then apparently decided all by themselves, and with absolutely no coercion, that the Prince's earlier defence, which had previously claimed that Sheikk Issa had been drugged by two men, alleged to be American-Lebanese brothers Ghassan and Bassam Nabulsi (I wondered how long before Americans were blamed), who recorded the beating in order to blackmail him, was so worthy of merit, that just for good measure the Nabulsi brothers were also sentenced in their absence to five years in prison for the drugging of Sheikh Hassan.
The court also sentenced three other workers at the farm (who were also in convenient absentia) where the torture took place to between one and three years in jail (a Syrian cook was sentenced to one year in jail for beating Mr. Shah Poor, and two workers, identified by Reuters as an Indian, and a Palestinian, were each sentenced to three years for sodomizing the victim with a stick), oh and also for the drugging the Sheikh (lucky that everyone was absent and that all drugged the sheikh - he must have been high as a kite with all that drugging). The local guard at the farm (who presumably wasn't in absentia and therefore couldn't be found guilty) was oddly acquitted with out court comment, despite being the uniformed official seen helping with the torture ... presumably he was only following orders.
Because they couldn't have got away with this total corruption, with the victim still alive and complaining to his Afghani government ... reportedly Mr M Shah "was compensated for his injuries in a private settlement in the days after the incident.” It was also reported that shortly after the verdict was announced by the court, Mr Shah Poor, “congratulated the sheikh, kissing him on both cheeks.” How much he got, or was forced to accept we were not told.
These are our 'allies' in the fight against terror, and the family are friends of the Respect Party MP George Galloway who has had other recent newsworthy dealings in the Middle East.
