British Imperial Troops Afghanistan 1878 |
Our involvement in that benighted land in the 19th century should have warned us of what was likely to happen ....
On a trip to Afghanistan, the then British Defence Secretary Liam Fox drew fire for correctly calling it "a broken 13th-century country", while former Blackwater CEO Erik Prince described the country as inhabited by "barbarians" with "a 1200 AD mentality." .... its worst than that now.
Its a backward state that turned its back on modernity in the 1960's, and retreated back into the ignorance of its past. The rise of the drug warlords, followed by the Taliban, was an inevitable consequence of this move.
They are now on the verge of being taken over by the Taliban again ....
Our involvement was of course prompted by Tony Blair's puppy like following of George W Bush's policies after the 9/11 attack on the US. Why Bush opted to invade a backward state like Afghanistan, who could never have planned and financed the 9/11 attack, was always a strange one. Well strange unless you knew the Bush's family business dealings .... and their strange links.
President Bush's family and the bin Laden family have been connected through business deals since 1977, when Salem, the head of the bin Laden family business, one of the biggest construction companies in the world, invested in George W Bush's start-up oil company, Arbusto Energy, Inc (which later became Bush Exploration).
Osama bin Laden embraced Islamic fundamentalism under CIA sponsorship, while fighting the cold war in Afghanistan under US President Reagan's governments backing. George Bush Snr was vice President at the time. Bin Laden was later the world's most wanted man under US President G W Bush. While Salem bin Laden, his half brother, went on to become a business partner of G W Bush, the man who lead the hunt for his brother. Salem bin Laden died in an air crash accident in 1988.
Strangely Salem's and Osama's father Mohammed bin Laden, was also killed in a plane crash in 1967. Also on the 31st of July 2015 a light aircraft carrying Osama Bin Laden's half sister Sana and his stepmother Rajaa Hashim crashed at Blackbushe airport in Hampshire, England.
However the US and UK invaded Afghanistan after 9/11 (instead of Saudi Arabia, where all the 9/11 attacker came from and were funded from), setting off the chain of events that have brought the Arab world to the edge of collapse (and risking taking Europe with it).
If only Blair had heeded history and not backed the Bush plan .... the world might be a very different place.
We thought that the bottom of the barrel had well and truly been scraped when George W Bush was made Commander in Chief, and such actions as described above were behind us, even if their effects are not. However, there were apparently other barrels on America's looney right and the muck at the bottom is already using B-movie rhetoric in the direction of North Korea. Bob help us.
ReplyDeleteJust remember that Donald Trump was a card carrying New York Democrat until only a few years ago. From 2001 to 2008, Trump apparently identified himself as a Democrat. However in 2008, he endorsed Republican John McCain for President (who he later denounced) ... Trump has made contributions to campaigns of both Republican Party and Democratic Party.
DeleteHe isn't from America's looney right as you put it. He is a political chancer who has swapped parties in order to take advantage of a party machine in a run for the presidency.
I sit corrected, cheers.
